Garchitorena
Garchitorena, officially the Municipality of Garchitorena ( bcl, Banwaan kan Garchitorena; tl, Bayan ng Garchitorena), is a 4th class municipality in the province of Camarines Sur, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 29,436 people. Its territory includes the islands of Quinalasag, Lamit, and Malabungot, also known as Mahad. History The original location of Garchitorena is said to be found at the mouth of the Pambuhan River but it was later transferred to Binanwahan primarily because of frequent attacks of the Moros. Soon, a rich man by the name of Don Andres Garchitorena, who hailed from Tigaon town and owned in this place a vast portion of the land area, persuaded the townspeople to plant abaca. He later established an abaca processing plant which started the establishment of this coastal settlement. Don Mariano Garchitorena
Mariano Garchitorena y Chereau (February 12, 1898 – October 1, 1961) was a Filipino politician of Spanish-French descent. Garchitorena was the son of Don Andres Garchitorena and a French lady, Margarite Chereau. He was married to Dona Caridad Pamintuan. He was the cousin of guerrilla Major Don Tomas T. Garchitorena and the brother of the actor Salvador A. Garchitorena, grandfather of Anjo Yllana, Jomari Yllana, and Jaime Garchitorena. He was also the uncle of Justice Francis Garchitorena, actor Andres Centenera and TV and radio star in the 1960s, Andres Garchitorena, brother of Stellita of Hanawan, Camarines Sur. Malabungot
Malabungot, alternatively spelled as Malabungut, and also known as Mahad, is an island in Binagasbasan Bay off the coast of Garchitorena in Camarines Sur, Philippines. It is separated from Caramoan Peninsula in the south by the Quinalasag Passage, also known as Sisiran Passage, which connects Lamit and Sisiran bays. The island forms the head of Binagasbasan Bay, bordered to the west by the Lamit Islands and to the east by Quinalasag Island, and which opens northward to the Philippine Sea. It is designated as a protected landscape and seascape on account of its biodiversity and ecological significance. Elpidio Quirino
Elpidio Rivera Quirino (born Elpidio Quirino y Rivera; ; November 16, 1890 – February 29, 1956) was a Filipino lawyer and politician who served as the sixth president of the Philippines from 1948 to 1953. A lawyer by profession, Quirino entered politics when he became a representative of Ilocos Sur from 1919 to 1925. He was then elected as a senator from 1925 to 1935. In 1934, he became a member of the Philippine Independence Commission that was sent to Washington, D.C., which secured the passage of Tydings–McDuffie Act to the United States Congress.
