Cyril Garbett
Cyril Forster Garbett (6 February 1875 – 31 December 1955) was an Anglican bishop and author. He was successively the Bishop of Southwark, the Bishop of Winchester and the Archbishop of York from 1942 to 1955. Early life Garbett was born in the village of Tongham in Surrey, next to Aldershot in Hampshire, the son of the Rev Charles Garbett, the vicar of Tongham. At the age of 11, he was sent to Portsmouth Grammar School and then to Keble College, Oxford, in 1894. After this, he went to Cuddesdon Theological College to study theology and prepare for ordination. Ordained ministry Garbett was ordained in 1899 as a deacon and was sent to be a curate of St Mary's Church, Portsea, where he was ordained to the priesthood in 1901 and remained until 1919, after 1909 as its vicar. In 1911 he was joined at Portsea by the newly ordained George Armitage Chase, who would later serve Garbett after his ordination to the episcopate, as examining chaplain. Matthew Jimmy David Garbett (born 13 April 2002) is a professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for side NAC Breda. Born in England, he plays for the New Zealand national team. Paul Anthony Garbett (born 18 December 1952, Auckland, New Zealand) is a chess International Master (IM). Chess career Garbett has represented New Zealand in six Chess Olympiads between 1974 and 2012. His best result was in 1990 when he scored 5/11 on board 1. Garbett competed in the Asian Zonal Chess Championship in Melbourne 1975 and Kuala Lumpur 1990. He competed in the Oceania Chess Championship in 2000, 2005, 2009 and 2012. Lee Garbett is a British comic book artist born in the West Midlands. He has worked on British comics. As of February 2011, he is working freelance after a period of exclusivity with DC Comics. Career He created the 4-issue mini-series ''Dark Mists'' with Annika Eade, which follows a group of Geisha blackmailed into becoming assassins. After AP Comics folded the title was picked up and reprinted by Markosia. Marjorie Josephine Maynard, Lady Garbett (23 January 1891 – 23 October 1975)Calendars of the Grants of Probate and Letters of Administration, via was a British artist and farmer, who designed some of the first set of postage stamps issued in Iraq. In later life, she brought and lost a high-profile court case after being evicted from her own farmstead. Edward Garbett
Edward Garbett (1817–1887), was a religious figure and writer of the 19th century. Garbett was born in Hereford on 10 December 1817, the sixth son of the Reverend James Garbett (1775–1857), custos rotulorum and prebendary of Hereford Cathedral. He was educated at Hereford Cathedral School, and then Brasenose College, Oxford. He obtained a B.A. in 1841 and M.A. in 1847. Early career He had originally wished to become a doctor, but later showed preference for work in the religious ministry. Garbett was ordained deacon by the Bishop of Hereford in 1841 and started work as curate in the village of Upton Bishop, where his father was vicar. The following year, he moved to Birmingham as curate of St. George's, under his cousin, the Rev. John Garbett. At Birmingham he obtained his first preferment, the vicarage of St. Stephen's. James Garbett
James Garbett (1802-1879) was a British academic and Anglican cleric who became the Archdeacon of Chichester. He was a Fellow of Brasenose College, Oxford. He was an Evangelical and an opponent of the Oxford Movement. He was the anti-Tractarian candidate in the election of the Professor of Poetry in 1841/2. The 'Oxford Movement' candidate to replace John Keble in that position was Isaac Williams.
