Wete District (''Wilaya ya Wete'' in Swahili) is one of two administrative districts of Pemba North Region in Tanzania. The district covers an area of . The district is comparable in size to the land area of Maldives. The district has a water border to the east and west by the Indian Ocean. The district is bordered to the north by Micheweni District. Gandō Dam
is a dam on the Tandogawa River, a branch of the Kitakami River in Morioka, Iwate Prefecture, Japan, completed in 1960. History The need for storage reservoirs in the Kitakami River valley for irrigation purposes was recognized by the Meiji government at the start of the 20th century, due to repeated crop failures and conflicts between various communities over water rights. The river also suffered from severe environmental problems with acidic runoff from upstream mining operations. Plans for a series of dams was initiated in 1941 by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, but all work was halted during World War II. The plan was revived after the war, and the Gandō Dam was the second to be completed after the Sannōkai Dam. Design The Gandō Dam was constructed to provide irrigation water, and also to supply the 41,000 KW Gandō No.1 Hydroelectric Plant and 8,300 KW Gandō No.2 Power Plants. The Gando Air Base (in Spanish: ''Base Aérea de Gando'') is a base of the Spanish Air and Space Force located in the Gran Canaria island, Spain, and next to the Gran Canaria Airport, eastward from its runways. Beyond several hangars opposite to the passenger terminal, the Gando Air Base contains ten shelters situated on the southern end of the eastern runway. They harbor the 46 Wing (''Ala 46'') which operates F/A-18 Hornet and CASA/IPTN CN-235 aircraft, and the SAR Eurocopter AS 532. The 46 Wing is composed of the 462 fighter (c. 22 F/A-18s) and 802 transport squadrons (3 CN-235 and 3 Cougar) and it defends the Spanish airspace around the Canary Islands. Jiandao or Chientao, known in Korean as Gando or Kando, is a historical border region along the north bank of the Tumen River in Jilin Province, Northeast China that has a high population of ethnic Koreans. The word "Jiandao" itself, literally "Middle Island", was initially referred to a shoal in Tumen River between today's Chuankou Village, Kaishantun in Longjing, Jilin, China and Chongsŏng, Onsong County in North Korea. The island was an important landmark for immigrants from the Korean Peninsula looking for settlements across the river. As the number of immigrants increased, the area that the word "Jiandao" gradually changed to reflect the areas of Korean settlement. In the early 20th century, an expanding Japanese Empire argued that ethnic Koreans living in this area should be placed under its jurisdiction.
