Ezio Gamba (born 2 December 1958) is a retired judoka from Italy, who represented his native country at four consecutive Summer Olympics (1976, 1980, 1984 and 1988). He claimed the gold medal in the men's lightweight division (– 71 kg) in 1980 by defeating Great Britain's Neil Adams. Francesco Gamba
Francesco Gamba (December 21, 1818 – May 10, 1887) was an Italian painter, mainly of seascapes. Biography He was born in Turin to Alberto, a main auditor for the Court of King Charles Albert of Sardinia. His father was named Baron in 1835. His mother was Marta Borgnis di Mannheim. Francesco's brother Enrico Gamba was also a painter; his brother Alberto, a doctor. Both became prominent academics in Turin. Francesco initially studied law, but soon quit his college studies to sail for months around the Mediterranean and Europe. He returned to Turin to enroll in the Accademia Albertina, and in 1842, he participated in the Promotrice exhibition in Turin. At the exhibition of 1846, he submitted a dozen landscape paintings, reflecting his many trips. Piero Gamba (16 September 1936 – 30 January 2022), also known as Pierino Gamba, was an Italian orchestral conductor and pianist. Biography Born in Rome, Italy on 16 September 1936, Gamba came to attention as a child prodigy. He won the Arnold Bax Memorial Medal in 1962 and during the 1960s he conducted the Philharmonia, and the London Symphony Orchestra, with whom he also recorded for Decca Records. From 1971 to 1980, he was the musical director and conductor of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra in Winnipeg, Canada. He was the chief conductor of the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra in Australia from 1983 to 1986, and conducted many other Australian orchestras during this time. Marina Gamba of Venice ( – ) was the mother of Galileo Galilei's illegitimate children. Marina Gamba was born around 1570 in Venice. Relationship with Galileo Galilei During one of his frequent trips to Venice, Galileo met a young woman named Marina, daughter of Andrea Gamba, and started a relationship with her. She moved into his house in Padua and bore him three children: Virginia (16 August 1600 – 1634), later Sister Maria Celeste; Livia (1601–1659), later Sister Arcangela; and Vincenzo (1606–1649). Rumon Gamba
Rumon Gamba (born 24 November 1972) is a British conductor. Biography Gamba studied music at Durham University, and then went to the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he studied conducting with Colin Metters, George Hurst and Sir Colin Davis. He became the first conducting student to obtain the DipRAM (the Royal Academy of Music performer's diploma). He was a 1998 prize winner in the Lloyds Bank BBC Young Musicians Conductors Workshop. In 1998, he joined the BBC Philharmonic as its Assistant Conductor, and later became Associate Conductor. He left the orchestra in 2002. Alessandro "Sandro" Gamba (born 3 June 1932) is an Italian former professional basketball player and coach. Gamba was a finalist for induction into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2005, and was elected as a member in 2006. He was inducted in 2006 to the Italian Basketball Hall of Fame. Vincenzo or Vincenzio Gamba (1606–1649), later Vincenzo Galilei (1619), was the illegitimate son of Galileo Galilei (1564–1642) and his mistress Marina Gamba (1570–1612). Vincenzo was legitimated to his father in 1619. Like his grandfather Vincenzo Galilei, the younger Vincenzo became a lutenist.
