Galway W.F.C.
Galway United Football Club ( ga, Cumann Peile Ghaillimh Aontaithe) is an Irish association football club based in Galway. It is the women's section of the League of Ireland club Galway United. Since 2013–14 the club played in the Women's National League (WNL) and did so as Galway WFC until 2022. Throughout its existence the club has been closely associated with both the Galway Ladies League and the Galway Football Association. The WNL team had its origins in the Galway Ladies League representative team that won the 2007 FAI Women's Cup and then represented the Republic of Ireland in the 2008–09 UEFA Women's Cup. The Galway Ladies League and its member clubs, such as Salthill Devon, Galway Bohemians, Corrib Celtic, Colga F.C. and NUI Galway, served as a feeder system for Galway WFC. Eamonn Deacy Park
Eamonn Deacy Park, formerly known as Terryland Park, is an association football stadium in the Republic of Ireland based in the Terryland district of Galway. It is owned by the Galway Football Association and is the home ground of both Galway United and Galway W.F.C. It is named after Eamonn Deacy, a former Galway United and Aston Villa player and Republic of Ireland international. In both 2007 and 2008, the ground was voted the best surface by the FAI. It won the same award again in 2015. History Early years One of the earliest games played at Terryland Park was on 3 February 1935. The penalty shootout is a method of determining a winner in sports matches that would have otherwise been drawn or tied. The rules for penalty shootouts vary between sports and even different competitions; however, the usual form is similar to penalty shots in that a single player takes one shot on goal from a specified spot, the only defender being the goalkeeper. Penalty Kick (association Football)
A penalty kick (commonly known as a penalty or a spot kick) is a method of restarting play in association football, in which a player is allowed to take a single shot at the goal while it is defended only by the opposing team's goalkeeper. It is awarded when an offence punishable by a direct free kick is committed by a player in their own penalty area. The shot is taken from the penalty mark, which is 11 m (12 yards) from the goal line and centred between the touch lines. Procedure The ball is placed on the penalty mark, regardless of where in the penalty area the foul occurred. The player taking the kick must be identified to the referee. Olivia O'Toole
Olivia Christina O'Toole (born 25 February 1971) is an Irish former international association football forward. She made her debut for the Republic of Ireland women's national football team in 1991 and captained the team before retiring in 2009. With over 130 caps she has made the most appearances for the Irish national team of any player, male or female. O'Toole's record of 54 international goals was equalled by Robbie Keane in September 2012. Niamh Reid Burke (born 6 August 1991) is an Irish association footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Women's National League (WNL) team Peamount United. She made five appearances for the senior Republic of Ireland national team, from her debut in 2014 until her retirement from international football in 2021. Raheny () is a northern suburb of Dublin, Ireland, halfway from the city centre to Howth. It is centred on a historic settlement, first documented in 570 CE ( Mervyn Archdall). The district shares Dublin's two largest municipal parks, Saint Anne's Park and Bull Island with its 4.5 km beach, with neighbouring Clontarf, and is crossed by several small watercourses. Dalymount Park (Irish: ''Páirc Cnocán Uí Dhálaigh'') is a football stadium in Phibsborough on the Northside of Dublin, Ireland. It is the home of Bohemian F.C., who have played there since the early 20th century. Affectionately known as Dalyer by fans, it was also historically the "home of Irish football", holding many Irish internationals and FAI Cup finals. Julie-Ann Russell (born 28 March 1991) is a Republic of Ireland women's international footballer who currently plays for Galway in the Irish Women's National League. In 2014, Russell was voted both FAI Senior Women's International Player of the Year and the Women's National League Senior Player of the Year. Méabh De Búrca
Méabh De Búrca (born 11 August 1988) is an Irish footballer who plays for the Republic of Ireland women's national football team and Women's National League club Galway. At club level she previously played in America for Boston Aztec, in Norway for Amazon Grimstad and for Swedish club Eskilstuna United. De Búrca can play in defence or midfield. Club career De Búrca joined Salthill Devon in 2000, initially playing in the boys' team. Niamh Fahey
Niamh Fahey (born 13 October 1987) is an Irish footballer who plays as a defender or midfielder for Liverpool in the Women's Super League and the Republic of Ireland women's national football team. She has previously played for Chelsea. Before joining Chelsea in December 2014, Fahey spent six seasons with Arsenal Ladies. She has also won national cups playing Gaelic football with Galway Ladies Football. Niamh is the sister of Galway's 2001 All-Ireland-winning Gaelic football captain Gary Fahey.
