Galpin Auto Sports (or GAS) is an American custom car and automobile repair shop located in Van Nuys which specializes in customizing and remodeling vehicles specifically for their drivers. They also provide specialty parts and accessories. The shop was founded in 1946 by Frank Galpin and later purchased by Bert Boeckmann. Galpin Auto Sports is the car garage featured on MTV's ''Pimp My Ride'' hosted by Xzibit. The show was moved from West Coast Customs to GAS in the 5th and 6th seasons. They also own a second-hand car shop. On site at the main garage is an extensive array of customized cars which can be bought direct from the garage. The Galpin Society was formed in October 1946 to further research into the branch of musicology known as organology, i.e. the history, construction, development and use of musical instruments. Based in the United Kingdom, it is named after the eminent British organologist and musical instrument collector, Canon Francis William Galpin (1858–1945), who had a lifelong interest in studying, collecting, playing, making and writing about musical instruments. The society's founder members, from the generation who followed in the footsteps of Canon Galpin, were keen to form a society to promote the historical study of all kinds of musical instruments. Alastair Galpin (born 1974, East London, South Africa) is the 2nd biggest Guinness World Records breaker of the 2000s decade, breaking 38 World Records, behind Ashrita Furman. Alfred Galpin (1901–1983) was an American literary academic and musical composer of classical works. He is now best known as a close friend and correspondent of writer H. P. Lovecraft. Life Alfred Galpin was a young prodigy, the son of the banker and inventor Alfred Galpin Jr. (1841–1924) of Appleton, Wisconsin. As a teenager he was mentored by H. P. Lovecraft, who had been alerted to the boy's brilliance by his teacher Maurice W. Moe and his participation in amateur journalism. Francis William Galpin (December 25, 1858 December 30, 1945) was an English cleric and antiquarian musicologist. He was known as a collector of old musical instruments. Life Born in Dorchester, Dorset, Galpin was educated at Sherborne and Trinity College, Cambridge, where he studied organ under Sterndale Bennett. He was ordained in the Church of England in 1883, became as a recent graduate of that year curate at Redenhall with Harleston in Norfolk; and went on to be a curate at St Giles in the Fields, London. As vicar of Hatfield Regis in Essex during the 1890s, Galpin organised concerts with instruments from his collection, including recorders, lutes and serpents. John George Galpin (13 January 1843 – 5 March 1917) was an English professional first-class cricketer. Galpin was born at Alverstoke in Gosport in January 1843. Described by Haygarth as a "good round-armed bowler and an average batsman", Galpin was engaged as a professional at Exeter College, Oxford in the summers of 1865–1866, 1868 and 1870. In 1867, he was the professional at Gravesend with the Gravesend and Milton Club, and was subsequently engaged by the Buckingham Club from 1868 to 1871, following the conclusion of the cricketing season at Oxford.
