Boettger's lizard (''Gallotia caesaris'') is a species of wall lizard in the Family (biology), family Lacertidae. The species is Endemism, endemic to the Canary Islands. There are two recognized subspecies. Etymology The Specific name (zoology), specific name, ''caesaris'', is in honor of German malacologist Caesar Rudolf Boettger, who was a nephew of German herpetologist Oskar Boettger. Geographic range ''G. caesaris'' is native to two of the western Canary Islands, El Hierro and La Gomera. www.reptile-database.org. On the neighboring islands Tenerife and La Palma it is replaced by its close relative ''Gallotia galloti''.Nicole Maca-Meyer, Maca-Meyer et al. (2003). Philipp Lehrs (1881–1956) was a German herpetologist who specialized in the lizard family Lacertidae. During his career, he was associated with the ''Zoologischen Forschungsinstitut'' (Zoological Research Institute) and '' Forschungsmuseum Alexander Koenig'' (Alexander Koenig Research Museum) in Bonn. Taxa Lehrs is the binomial author of the following species/subspecies of lizards: *''Gallotia caesaris'' (Boettger's lizard), (1914).
