Galerie Eva Presenhuber
Galerie Eva Presenhuber is a contemporary art gallery, owned by Eva Presenhuber, with locations in Zurich, Switzerland (since 2003) and Vienna (since 2022). Eva Presenhuber founded Galerie Eva Presenhuber in October 2003 in Zurich, with an inaugural exhibition of paintings by Verne Dawson; Dawson, an American painter, continues to be represented by Presenhuber. Several artists whose careers Presenhuber helped launch in the 1990s continue to be part of the gallery program, including Ugo Rondinone, Doug Aitken, Joe Bradley, and Liam Gillick. After several years exhibiting in the Löwenbräu Areal, Presenhuber opened a secondary space in the Diagonal building at the former Maag Areal. The new gallery – designed by Andreas Fuhrimann and Gabrielle Hächler architects – opened with a major exhibition by Austrian artist Franz West in April 2011, and was Presenhuber's only Zurich location from late 2017 to early 2020. Eva Presenhuber is an Austria-born, Zürich-based art dealer, owner of Galerie Eva Presenhuber, based in Zürich, Switzerland and a second space in New York City. Career In 1989, Presenhuber became director of Galerie Walcheturm, a non-profit exhibition space in Zürich, which she transformed into a respected program showcasing Swiss artists such as Fischli Weiss and Ugo Rondinone. Presenhuber also gave international artists such as Sue Williams, Douglas Gordon, and Angela Bulloch their first gallery exhibitions in Switzerland. Ugo Rondinone
Ugo Rondinone (born November 30, 1964) is a Swiss-born artist widely recognized for his mastery of several different media—most prominently sculpture, drawing and painting, but also photography, architecture, video and sound installation—in the largely figurative works he has made for exhibitions in galleries, museums and outdoor public spaces around the world. He has never limited himself to a particular material, no more than he has to a single discipline. Shara Hughes
Shara Hughes (born 1981) is an American painter. Biography Hughes was born in 1981 in Atlanta, Georgia. She attended the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) and went on to study at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. She lives and works in Brooklyn. Exhibitions and collections In 2017 an entire room Hughes' work was in the 2017 Whitney Biennial. Tschabalala Self
Tschabalala Self (born 1990) is an American artist best known for her depictions of Black female figures using paint, fabric, and discarded pieces of her previous works. Though she uses mixed media, all of her works are on canvas and employ a "painting language." Inspired by works done by an African-American artist, Romare Bearden, Tschabalala Self creates collages of various items that she has collected over time and sews them together to depict black female bodies that "defy the narrow spaces in which they are forced to exist", which she derives from the history behind the African-American struggle and oppression in society. Self reclaims the black female body and portrays them to be free of stereotypes without having to fear being punished. Her goal is to "create alternative narratives around the black body". Peter Fischli (born 8 June 1952) and David Weiss (21 June 1946 – 27 April 2012), often shortened to Fischli/Weiss, were a Swiss artist duo that collaborated beginning in 1979.
