Fred Kelton Gage
Fred Kelton Gage (December 12, 1902 – October 21, 1951) was an American lawyer and politician. Gage was born in Cottage Grove, Washington County, Minnesota and graduated from Lindstrom High School in Lindstrom, Minnesota. He graduated from Minnesota College of Law (now William Mitchell College of Law) and was admitted to the Minnesota bar. Gage served in the United States Navy during World War II and was commissioned a lieutenant. He lived in Fairfax, Renville County, Minnesota with his wife and family and served as the Fairfax Village Attorney. Gage also served in the Minnesota Senate from 1939 to 1946. His son Kelly Gage also served in the Minnesota Senate. Gage was killed with his wife in an automobile accident on U.S. Route 169 in Minnesota five miles south of Belle Plaine, Minnesota Belle Plaine is a city in Scott County, Minnesota, United States, about 40 minutes southwest of Minneapolis. Thomas Gage (c. 1603 – 1656) was an English Dominican friar, best known for his travel writing on New Spain and Central America during a sojourn there of over a decade. He closely observes colonial society and culture. On his return to England in 1637 he converted to Anglicanism. Early life Thomas Gage was the son of son of John Gage of Haling, Surrey, by Margaret, daughter of Sir Thomas Copley of Gatton in that county. William Gage, 2nd Viscount Gage
William Hall Gage, 2nd Viscount Gage (6 January 1717/18 – 11 October 1791) was a British politician who sat in the House of Commons between 1744 and 1780 when he was raised to the peerage as Baron Gage. He was equerry to the Prince of Wales. William Hall Gage was born to Thomas Gage and his wife Benedicta Maria Theresa Hall on 6 January 1717/18 and christened 31 January 1717/18 at Westminster St James, Middlesex. He was educated at Westminster School. From 1744 Gage served five terms as Member of Parliament representing the Seaford borough of Sussex. As eldest son, he succeeded his father to the title Viscount Gage on 21 December 1754. He served as Paymaster of Pensions from 1755 through 1763 and later from 1765 until 1782 when Parliament dissolved the office. Sir William Gage (1695 – 23 April 1744) of Firle Place was a British landowner and politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1727 to 1744. He was an early patron of cricket, in association with his friend Charles Lennox, 2nd Duke of Richmond. Early life Gage was born in Firle, East Sussex, the third son of Sir John Gage, 4th Baronet, and his first wife Mary Stanley, daughter of Sir William Stanley, 1st Baronet, of Hooton, Cheshire. He succeeded his brother to the Baronetcy in October 1713. Parliamentary career The Gage family were Roman Catholic recusants but Sir William chose to conform to the established Church so that he could become an MP in 1722. Viscount Gage, of Castle Island in the County of Kerry of the Kingdom of Ireland, is a title in the Peerage of Ireland. It was created in 1720 for Thomas Gage, along with the subsidiary title of Baron Gage, of Castlebar in the County of Mayo, also in the Peerage of Ireland. Matilda Joslyn Gage (March 24, 1826 – March 18, 1898) was an American writer and activist. She is mainly known for her contributions to women's suffrage in the United States (i.e. the right to vote) but she also campaigned for Native American rights, abolitionism (the end of slavery), and freethought (the free exercise of reason in matters of religious belief). She is the eponym for the Matilda effect, which describes the tendency to deny women credit for scientific invention. She influenced her son-in-law L. Frank Baum, the author of '' The Wizard of Oz''. Lyman Judson Gage (June 28, 1836 – January 26, 1927) was an American financier and Presidential Cabinet officer. Biography Early life He was born in DeRuyter, New York, educated at an academy in Rome, New York, and at the age of 17 became a bank clerk. In 1853 he moved to Chicago, served for three years as bookkeeper, and in 1858 entered the Merchants Loan and Trust Company, where he was cashier in 1861–1868. Afterwards he became successively assistant cashier, vice-president, and president of the First National Bank of Chicago, one of the strongest financial institutions in the Midwestern United States. Sir John Gage KG (28 October 1479 – 18 April 1556) was an English courtier during the Tudor period. He held a number of offices, including Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster (1542–1547), Comptroller of the Household (1540–1547), Constable of the Tower (1540–1556) and Lord Chamberlain (1553–1556).
