Gabu Region
Gabú Region is the easternmost region in Guinea-Bissau. Its capital is Gabú. The region borders Senegal to the north, Guinea to the east and south and the Guinea-Bissau regions of Tombali and Bafatá to the west. It covers an area of 9,150 km2, making it the largest of Guinea-Bissau's administrative regions. It is an inland region covered with savannah or light savannah woodland and receives an annual rainfall of more than . As of 2009, the total population of the region was 205,608, with the urban population being 51,211 and rural being 154,397. The sex ratio of the region is 94 females for every hundred males. As of 2009, the net activity rate was 72.44 per cent, proportion of employed labour force was 43.86 per cent, proportion of labour force was 74.48 and the proportion of potentially active population was 43.86 per cent. Gabu (town)
Gabu is the largest town in eastern Guinea-Bissau and capital of the Gabu Region. History From 1537, the town was the centre of the eponymous kingdom of Kaabu, also written Ngabou or N’Gabu. Its population was originally a Mandé people from what is currently Mali, and the kingdom was initially vassal to the Mali Empire. As the latter waned, Sama Koli, Gabu's governor, proclaimed himself king, but maintained many of the trappings of Malian cultural heritage. The kingdom built earthen ramparts around the settlement (now vanished) and established trade relations with the Portuguese on the coast. In the early nineteenth century, the Fula ethnic group converted to Islam and began the Kansala War to end Mandé dominance. It ended with a big fire which caused extensive damage and casualties on both sides. Gabu, Nigeria
Gabu is a local government area located in Nigeria, Africa with Igede as the official language. Gabu is situated in the Yala Local Government Area of Cross River State, Nigeria. Its geographical coordinates are 6° 51' 0" North, 8° 46' 0" East. It is bounded to the north by Benue State, to the south by Ijegu – Yala, to the east by Aliforkpa, and to the west by the Igede-speaking part of Benue State. The only language spoken by the Gabu people is Igede, though English and Pidgin English are occasionally spoken for official purposes. Gabu possesses good climatic soil and vegetation conditions that provide agricultural and agro-allied industrial potentials. A large part of the Gabu region consists of grassland or savanna and rainforest in places such as Ega, Ajumole and Adikpe. This variety of soils and vegetation makes possible the cultivation of a wide variety of agricultural produce ranging from food to cash crops.
