Gabriela Antunes
Gabriela Antunes (8 July 1937 - 3 April 2004) was an Angolan writer and educator. Biography Antunes was born on 8 July 1937 in Huambo. After completing secondary school in Huambo, she moved to Lisbon in 1955. She obtained a bachelor's degree in linguistics in Germany. Antunes earned a postgraduate degree in Education and English in Luanda. She began working at the Sarmento Rodrigues Commercial and Industrial School, and in 1964 was hired at the English and German Commercial Institute of Luanda. She also taught at the Superior Private Institute of Angola. Antunes was the UNESCO Coordinator of Portuguese in Angola. In addition, she was the director of the Angolan National Library. Gabriela Antunes was professor and journalism program coordinator at the High Institute of Luanda Economics. A nova (plural novae or novas) is a transient astronomical event that causes the sudden appearance of a bright, apparently "new" star (hence the name "nova", which is Latin for "new") that slowly fades over weeks or months. Causes of the dramatic appearance of a nova vary, depending on the circumstances of the two progenitor stars. All observed novae involve white dwarfs in close binary systems. The main sub-classes of novae are classical novae, recurrent novae (RNe), and dwarf novae. They are all considered to be cataclysmic variable stars. Classical nova eruptions are the most common type. They are likely created in a close binary star system consisting of a white dwarf and either a main sequence, subgiant, or red giant star. António Jacinto
António Jacinto do Amaral Martins (28 September 1924 – 23 June 1991) was an Angolan poet and politician. He was also known by his pseudonym Orlando Tavora. Biography Jacinto was born in Luanda, Angola, to parents of Portuguese descent. He was raised and studied in the interior of Angola in the remote town of Golungo Alto in Cuanza Norte Province. After having obtained his license in Luanda, he started working as a civil servant. He stood out as a protesting poet, and as a result of his political militancy, was first arrested in 1959. Jacinto was ultimately sent to the Tarrafal concentration camp in Cape Verde from 1961 to 1972. His first book of poems was published in 1961, the same year of his arrest and imprisonment. His imprisonment received international attention, and he was transferred in 1972 to Lisbon where, on parole, he worked as an accountant. José Eduardo Dos Santos
José Eduardo dos Santos (; 28 August 1942 – 8 July 2022) was the president of Angola from 1979 to 2017. As president, dos Santos was also the commander-in-chief of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA) and president of the People's Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA), the party that has ruled Angola since it won independence in 1975. He was the second-longest-serving president in Africa, surpassed only by Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo of Equatorial Guinea. Dos Santos joined the MPLA, then an anti-colonial movement, while still in school, and earned degrees in petroleum engineering and radar communications while studying in the Soviet Union.
