2017–18 Liga I
The 2017–18 Liga I (also known as Liga 1 Betano for sponsorship reasons) was the 100th season of the Liga I, the top professional league for Romanian association football clubs. The season began on 14 July 2017 and ended on 2 June 2018, being the third to take place since the play-off/play-out format has been introduced. Defending champions Viitorul Constanța came fourth. CFR Cluj became the new champions in the last fixture of the play-off, clinching their fourth league title after finishing one point above FCSB. Juventus București and Sepsi OSK entered as the promoted teams from the 2016–17 Liga II, but only the latter managed to avoid relegation. Since Romania dropped from 15th to 17th in the UEFA association coefficient rankings, only the title winner qualified for the UEFA Champions League. 2022–23 Cupa României
The 2022–23 Cupa României is the 85th season of the annual Romanian primary football knockout tournament. The winner will qualify for the second qualifying round of the 2023–24 UEFA Europa Conference League. It is the first season in which the Round of 16 was replaced by a play-off, immediately followed by a group stage, in which the best 8 teams from Liga 1 will also enter directly. In this round, the 24 teams remaining in the competition will be divided into 4 groups of 6, two each from value boxes 1, 2 and 3. 2020 Supercupa României
The 2020 Supercupa României was the 22nd edition of the Supercupa României, an annual football super cup contested by the winners of the previous season's Liga I and Cupa României competitions. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the match was postponed until 15 April 2021. The game featured CFR Cluj and FCSB, and the Ilie Oană Stadium in Ploiești hosted the competition for a second consecutive year. CFR Cluj claimed its fourth trophy after a 4–1 victory at the penalty shoot-out. Supercupa României
The Supercupa României ( en, Romanian Supercup) is a Romanian football championship contested by the winners of the Liga I and the Cupa României. It is usually played at the Arena Națională in Bucharest. The competition started off in 1994, with the first edition being won by Steaua București. In 2010, for the first time in its history, the Supercup was held even though CFR Cluj had been victorious in both the league and the cup in the previous season. At that time, they faced Unirea Urziceni, the Liga I runners-up. The most successful performer so far has been FCSB with 6 wins, followed by Rapid București and CFR Cluj with 4 wins each up until 2021. The Cupa Ligii ( en, League Cup) was Romania's secondary club football tournament. Like the Cupa României, it was played on a knockout (single elimination) basis. History It is unclear when the competition was first created, as there are no official recordings. It probably started sometime after 1990, but there may already have been an edition as early as 1978. Cupa Ligii was meant to shorten the break between the end of the league season and the start of a major international competition. It had a friendly character and was last played in 2000 before being dropped.
