Gabriel Janer Manila (born November 1, 1940, in Algaida, Mallorca, Spain) is a Spanish university professor, translator and writer. He is well-known across Spain for being a prolific author who has worked in almost every genre. His work has been translated into several languages, including German, English, Spanish, Basque and Galician. Manila combines his literary career with teaching at the University of the Balearic Islands. Awards He was the winner of the 2007 Premi Ramon Llull, the most prestigious prize in Catalan literature, for his novel Tigers.. The University of the Balearic Islands ( ca, Universitat de les Illes Balears, UIB; es, Universidad de las Islas Baleares ) is a Balearic Spanish university, founded in 1978 and located in Palma on the island of Majorca. The university is funded by the autonomous Government of the Balearic Islands. Ramon Llull
Ramon Llull (; c. 1232 – c. 1315/16) was a philosopher, theologian, poet, missionary, and Christian apologist from the Kingdom of Majorca. He invented a philosophical system known as the ''Art'', conceived as a type of universal logic to prove the truth of Christian doctrine to interlocutors of all faiths and nationalities. The ''Art'' consists of a set of general principles and combinatorial operations. It is illustrated with diagrams. A prolific writer, he is also known for his literary works written in Catalan, which he composed to make his ''Art'' accessible to a wider audience. In addition to Catalan and Latin he also probably wrote in Arabic (although no texts in Arabic survive). His books were translated into Occitan, French, and Castilian during his lifetime.
