GWR Records
GWR Records were an independent record label active in the UK from 1986 through to 1991. By 1984, Gerry Bron's Bronze Records were in financial difficulty leading to a hiatus in recording activity for Motörhead. Eventually, Motörhead managers Douglas Smith and Dave Simmons bought the band out of their contract and Bron subsequently sold the Bronze Records rights onto Legacy Records owner Ray Richards. Richards then contacted Smith with a proposal for a joint venture to release new product by Motörhead, leading to the formation of GWR Records (named after Smith's business address of 15 Great Western Road). In addition to Motörhead, the label mainly released product by acts associated with Smith, such as Girlschool, Fastway, Hawkwind, Tank, Atomgods and Anti-Nowhere League, and bands from the thrash metal scene. Roadrunner Records
Roadrunner Records is an American record label focused on heavy metal and hard rock bands. Founded in the Netherlands in 1980, it is now a division of Warner Music Group and is based in New York City. History The label was launched in 1980 in the Netherlands. Roadrunner's initial business was importing North American metal-band recordings into Europe. In 1986, Roadrunner opened its US headquarters in New York City and later opened offices in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Japan, Australia, Denmark, Russia and Canada. Early successes included albums from King Diamond (the first Roadrunner artist to enter the Billboard Top 200 albums chart) and Annihilator. The label also handled early Metallica releases in the Scandinavian region. Atomgods
Atomgods were a UK heavy rock band from late 1980s. The band were formed by former Inner City Unit guitarist Judge Trev Thoms, the first recording lineup consisting of Hiro Sasaki and Kofi Baker (Ginger's son). They were signed to GWR Records producing the 1988 album ''WOW!'' and the 1991 album ''History Re-Written''. For the second album, which saw the band shorten their name to Atomgod and took on a thrash metal direction. Thoms was joined by bassist Algy Ward ( The Damned and Tank), guitarist Bill Liesegang (Nina Hagen Band), and drummer Steve Clarke of Fastway Judge Trev Thoms went on to form Mother of All Bands (MOAB) with Hawkwind's ex Bassist/Frontman, Ron Tree and produced the album "Insect Brain" on Real Festival Music. In 2007 Judge Trev returned to playing with former Hawkwind sax player Nik Turner in the reformed Inner City Unit but unfortunately died on 8 December 2010 from pancreatic cancer. Wendy is a given name now generally given to girls in English-speaking countries. In Britain, Wendy appeared as a masculine name in a parish record in 1615. It was also used as a surname in Britain from at least the 17th century. ''Bomber'' is the third studio album by British rock band Motörhead. It was released on 27 October 1979 via Bronze Records, their second with the label. Background By 1979, Motörhead had been together for four years and had amassed a loyal following in both punk and heavy metal circles. After recording an album for United Artists that the label shelved, the band released its eponymous debut LP in 1977, but it was with 1979's ''Overkill'' that the band hit their stride. The title track landed in the UK Top 40 and, after appearing again on ''Top of the Pops'', the band returned to the studio that summer with legendary producer Jimmy Miller to record what would become ''Bomber''. However, the band did not have the opportunity to work up the songs on the road, as they had with their previous album. ''Overkill'' is the second studio album by British rock band Motörhead, released in March 1979. It was the band's first album with Bronze Records. ''Kerrang!'' magazine listed the album at number 46 among the "100 Greatest Heavy Metal Albums of All Time". American thrash metal band Overkill was named after this album. Nightmare At Maple Cross
''Nightmare at Maple Cross'' is the sixth studio album by the British heavy metal band, Girlschool, released on GWR Records in 1986. Under the direction of producer Vic Maile, this album marks the return of the band to the sound of their earlier works and to a four-piece formation. All tracks were composed by the four musicians, except for the cover of Mud's "Tiger Feet". The US version of the album included a duet with Gary Glitter covering his song, " I'm the Leader of the Gang (I Am)". ''Orgasmatron'' is the seventh studio album by British rock band Motörhead, released in July 1986 by GWR, their first with the label. It is the band's first album to feature two guitarists Phil "Wizzö" Campbell and Michael "Würzel" Burston, and also the only full Motörhead studio album to feature Pete Gill on the drums, although all three also played on the new tracks recorded for the compilation album '' No Remorse'', recorded and released in 1984.
