GWR 7800 Class 7802 Bradley Manor
7802 ''Bradley Manor'' is a 7800 'Manor' Class 4-6-0 steam locomotive. Built by the Great Western Railway at its Swindon Works in January 1938 it had an operating life of 27 years being withdrawn in November 1965. Designed by Charles Collett, it is one of nine of the class to be preserved and is currently based on the Severn Valley Railway. Service After leaving Swindon it was sent to Old Oak Common TMD being transferred to Bristol Bath Road TMD in 1939. Like most of its class it eventually ended up on the Cambrian section, arriving at Machynlleth in 1946 where it stayed until its final transfer to Shrewsbury in 1964. Withdrawn from service in November 1965 it was sent to Woodham Brothers scrapyard in July 1966. Preservation It was rescued from Barry in 1979 by the 'Erlestoke Manor Fund' based at the Severn Valley Railway originally as spare parts for 7812 ''Erlestoke Manor''. The West Somerset Railway (WSR) is a heritage railway line in Somerset, England. The Great Western Railway (GWR) 6959 or Modified Hall Class is a class of 4-6-0 steam locomotive. They were a development by Frederick Hawksworth of Charles Collett's earlier Hall Class named after English and Welsh country houses. Background Although the GWR had been at the forefront of British locomotive development between 1900 and 1930, the 1930s saw a degree of complacency at Swindon reflected in the fact that many designs and production methods had not kept pace with developments elsewhere. This was especially true with the useful GWR 4900 Class, the design of which largely originated in the 1900s and had not fundamentally changed since the mid-1920s. GWR 6959 Class 6960 Raveningham Hall
6960 ''Raveningham Hall'' is a Great Western Railway, 4-6-0 Modified Hall Class locomotive, built in March 1944 at Swindon Works to a design by Frederick Hawksworth. It is one of six of this class that survive in preservation. The locomotive is named after Raveningham Hall in Norfolk. Operation Its first shed allocation was Old Oak Common with a transfer to Reading in September 1953, then to its last shed allocation Oxford in September 1963. The locomotive was withdrawn from service in June 1964 and sold to Woodham Brothers scrapyard in Barry, South Wales for cutting up. Preservation 6960 was saved for preservation and left the yard in October 1972 as the 26th departure from Barry having been acquired by David Edleston of Derby. Kingswear is a village and civil parish in the South Hams area of the English county of Devon.
