GWF Tag Team Championship
The GWF Tag Team Championship was the tag team title in the Global Wrestling Federation in Texas. The title existed from 1991 until 1994, when GWF closed. The title was featured on the promotion's show that aired nationally on ESPN. It is known as the first tag team title that Harlem Heat won. In its early days, the GWF pretended on television that it was part of a larger worldwide promotion. In 1991, it was announced that a tag team known as the "English lords" had been injured in a car wreck and that the GWF was organizing a tournament to award the vacated title in Dallas. No such team as the English Lords ever existed. Global Wrestling Federation
Global Wrestling Federation was an American professional wrestling promotion based in Dallas, Texas. It started in June 1991 and folded in September 1994. At one time its shows were presented on the ESPN television network. Often the promotion provided programming five days a week, airing at 4 p.m. Eastern. The GWF was the last pro wrestling promotion to be seen on ESPN regularly. Beginning in the mid-1990s, the network began to emphasize talk shows in the mid-afternoon hours, supplanting pro wrestling. It was announced that ESPN Classic would start showing re-runs on August 5, 2013. Episodes are available on the WWE Network. History Max Andrews and Joe Pedicino were the original GWF promoters. Bobby Edward Duncum Jr. (August 26, 1965 – January 24, 2000) was an American professional wrestler. He was best known for his stint in World Championship Wrestling as a member of The West Texas Rednecks. Professional wrestling career Early career (1992–1995) After playing collegiate football for the University of Texas at Austin, and playing professionally for the Dallas Texans of the Arena Football League, Duncum debuted as a wrestler for the Texas-based Global Wrestling Federation in September 1992. Two months after his debut, he and Johnny Hawk, collectively known as The Texas Mustangs, won the Tag Team Championship from The Rough Riders ( Black Bart and Johnny Mantell). Jack Victory
Kenneth Rinehurst (born July 3, 1964) is an American professional wrestler and manager, better known by his ring name, Jack Victory. He is perhaps best known for his appearances with the Universal Wrestling Federation and the World Class Wrestling Association in the mid-1980s, with World Championship Wrestling between 1988 and 1991 and with Extreme Championship Wrestling between 1998 and 2001. Richard "Rick" Allen (born September 24, 1963), also known by the ring name Sunny Beach, is an American retired professional wrestler and promoter. He is perhaps best known for his tenure in the Universal Wrestling Federation where he was one-half of Wet N' Wild with Steve Ray. As the promotion's top "babyface" tag team, Wet N' Wild battled Cactus Jack and Bob Orton Jr., led by manager "Coach" John Tolos, with their feud concluding at the company's first PPV event UWF Beach Brawl in 1991. Steve Cox is a retired American professional wrestler who competed in Mid-South regional promotions during the 1980s and early 1990s including the Universal Wrestling Federation, World Class Championship Wrestling and the National Wrestling Alliance. , better known as Mr. Sakurada, The Dragonmaster, and as the Japanese version of , was a Japanese professional wrestler. He was best known for his work in Stampede Wrestling, National Wrestling Alliance, and World Championship Wrestling. Steve Simpson (wrestler)
Stephan Simpson (born 3 December 1963) is a South African former professional wrestler, better known by the ring name Steve Simpson. Professional wrestling career Simpson is the son of wrestler Sammy Cohen. Sammy Cohen was the stage name for father Alec Simpson. Steve started wrestling in 1984 and achieved his first amount of stardom in the National Wrestling Alliance's Pacific Northwest territory. He was half of the S&S Express with Joe Savoldi and they captured the Tag Team Titles there. Steve Simpson also worked for the World Wrestling Council in Puerto Rico. Terry Ray Gordy Sr. (April 23, 1961 – July 16, 2001) was an American professional wrestler. Gordy appeared in the United States with promotions such as Mid-South Wrestling, Georgia Championship Wrestling, World Class Championship Wrestling, Jim Crockett Promotions/World Championship Wrestling and the Universal Wrestling Federation as a member of The Fabulous Freebirds. The Fabulous Freebirds
The Fabulous Freebirds were a professional wrestling tag team who attained fame in the 1980s, performing into the 1990s. The team usually consisted of three wrestlers, although in different situations and points in its history, just two performed under the Freebirds name. The Freebird lineup of Hayes, Roberts, and Gordy was inducted into the Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2015, and members Hayes, Roberts, Gordy, and Garvin were inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2016. Alexander Pourteau, (born October 30, 1969) is an American professional wrestler best known for his stint with the World Wrestling Federation as Alex "The Pug" Pourteau between 1996 and 1997.
