Guangzhou Science City
Guangzhou Science City (GSC; ) is a technology center developed with support from the Guangzhou government. It has emerged from the first-ever use of strategic urban planning in China. It integrates industrial, urban residential and commercial areas, forming one of the sub-urban centres within the polycentric metropolis of Guangzhou. The Guangzhou municipal government continues to invest in the city and advocates R&D in IT sector and outsourcing industry. Location GSC is located in the west of Huangpu District of Guangzhou, right above Guangzhou High-tech Industrial Development Zone. History The reasons for the establishment of GSC go back all to way to the 1990s. During this time, China's political system became more decentralized, giving its cities more room to manoeuvre and engage in detailed decision making. Since local officials were evaluated on indicators such as economic growth, cities began to grow more competitive. Initiatives for developing urban centres explicit ...

GSC Bus
GSC is a bus used in many of the HP 9000 workstations and servers. The acronym has various explanations, including ''Gecko System Connect'' (Gecko being the codename of the 712 workstation), ''Gonzo System Connect'' and ''General System Connect''. GSC was a general 32-bit I/O bus, similar to NuBus or Sun's SBus, although it was also used as a processor bus with the PA-7100LC and PA-7300LC processors. Several variations were produced over time, the later ones running at 40 MHz: ;GSC-1X: The original GSC bus implemented on PCX-L and used in the Gecko (712), Mirage (715) and Electra computers. Peak Bandwidth 142MB/s w/DMA, 106 MB/s with PIO writes. ;GSC+, a.k.a. "Extended GSC" or "EGSC": Enhancements added for KittyHawk/SkyHawk (U2 chip) that allow for pending transactions. GSC+ enhancements are orthogonal to the GSC-1.5X and GSC-2X enhancements. ;GSC-1.5X: GSC-1X with an additional variable length write transaction. ;GSC-2X: GSC-1.5X with a protocol enhancement to allow da ...

Group Switching Centre
A group switching centre (GSC) was a United Kingdom telephone exchange used to provide local and trunk routing to local exchanges within its own and if required, adjacent group areas. Group switching centres formed a component of the trunk mechanisation hierarchy that was commenced in 1939. The concept of group switching centres became important with the introduction of subscriber trunk dialling (STD) in 1958, initially from Bristol central telephone exchange. They were typically located towards the centre of their corresponding group area, usually in a large town or city, and serviced a group of local and dependent telephone exchanges within their home and adjacent group areas. From 1 January 1958, the British network was divided into 639 charging groups. These areas provided the basis for tariff calculations for telephone calls. History Group switching centres were required because it was not cost-effective to have direct circuits between every exchange in the country. The GSC ...

Genomic Standards Consortium
The Genomic Standards Consortium (GSC) is an initiative working towards richer descriptions of our collection of genomes, metagenomes and marker genes. Established in September 2005, this international community includes representatives from a range of major sequencing and bioinformatics centres (including NCBI, EMBL, DDBJ, JCVI, JGI, EBI, Sanger, FIG) and research institutions. The goal of the GSC is to promote mechanisms for standardizing the description of (meta)genomes, including the exchange and integration of (meta)genomic data. The number and pace of genomic and metagenomic sequencing projects will only increase as the use of ultra-high-throughput methods becomes common place and standards are vital to scientific progress and data sharing. Mission Community-driven standards have the best chance of success if developed within the auspices of international working groups. Participants in the GSC include biologists, computer scientists, those building genomic databases and ...

Global Standards Collaboration
The Global Standards Collaboration (GSC) started life as The "Inter-regional Telecommunications Standards conference (ITSC) in 1990. This was an initiative of the T1 Committee of the United States who invited the other founding partner organizations ITU-T, ETSI and the Japanese TTC to the first ISC Meeting in Fredericksburg, VA. The goal was set by the “spirit of Melbourne”, stemming from a CCITT Plenary Assembly, to find a way of co-operation between Participating Standards Organizations (PSOs) from different regions of the world in order to facilitate global standardization within the ITU (International Telecommunication Union). The ITSC focussed its work on fixed telecommunications networks. After a few years, the ITSC, as a conference, became too big and was therefore reduced to GSC, the Global Standards Collaboration, with delegations limited to a reasonable size (10 maximum). The first GSC meeting was held in 1994 in Melbourne, Australia. Around the same time, it was dec ...

GSC (gene)
Homeobox protein goosecoid (GSC) is a homeobox protein that is encoded in humans by the ''GSC'' gene. Like other homeobox proteins, goosecoid functions as a transcription factor involved in morphogenesis. In ''Xenopus'', ''GSC'' is thought to play a crucial role in the phenomenon of the Spemann-Mangold organizer. Through lineage tracing and timelapse microscopy, the effects of GSC on neighboring cell fates could be observed. In an experiment that injected cells with GSC and observed the effects of uninjected cells, GSC recruited neighboring uninjected cells in the dorsal blastopore lip of the Xenopus gastrula to form a twinned dorsal axis, suggesting that the goosecoid protein plays a role in the regulation and migration of cells during gastrulation. It is not clear how GSC conducts this organizational function. Errors in the formation of goosecoid protein in mice and humans have a range of consequences on the developing embryo typically in regions of neural crest cell derivatives ...

History In September 1841, the Province of Canada legislature passed a resolution that authorized the sum of £1,500 sterling be granted to the government for the estimated expense of performing a geological survey of the province. In 1842, the Geological Survey of Canada was formed to fulfill this request.Christy Vodden (1992)No Stone Unturned: The First 150 years of the Geological Survey of Canada Geological Survey of Canada Web site William Edmond Logan was in Montreal at the time and made it known that he was interested in participating in this survey. General Service Corps
The General Service Corps (GSC) is a corps of the British Army. Role The role of the corps is to provide specialists, who are usually on the Special List or General List. In World War II, they were used for male operatives of the Special Operations Executive (female operatives joined the FANY). History The General Service Corps itself was formed in February 1942. From 2 July 1942, army recruits were enlisted in the corps for their first six weeks so that their subsequent posting could take account of their skills and the Army's needs. A similar role, holding some recruits pending allocation to their units, continues today. Bermuda Militia Infantry soldiers absorbed into the Bermuda Militia Artillery before demobilisation in 1946 wore the General Service Corps cap badge instead of the Royal Artillery cap badge.
