GR 1
The long distance footpath GR 1 is one of the paths in the GR footpath, grand randonnée network in France. It takes in the great forests outside Paris. Course Porte Maillot The starting point is the Porte Maillot metro station. ''Bois de Boulogne'' to ''Forêt de Marly'' The path crosses the bois de Boulogne, goes around the hippodrome de Longchamp, crosses the Seine by the Avre footbridge (built by Gustave Eiffel) and goes into Saint-Cloud. It crosses the parc de Saint-Cloud and comes out at Marnes-la-Coquette. It comes to Vaucresson, then La Celle-Saint-Cloud, the upper part of Louveciennes and the edge of the park of the former Château de Marly then enters the Forêt de Marly, Marly Forest. GR Footpath
The GR footpaths are a network of long-distance walking trails in Europe, mostly in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Spain. They go by the following names: french: link=no, sentier de grande randonnée, vls, link=no, Groteroutepad, nl, Langeafstandwandelpad, es, link=no, sendero de gran recorrido, pt, percurso pedestre de grande rota. The trails in France alone cover approximately . Trails are blazed with characteristic marks consisting of a white stripe above a red stripe. These appear regularly along the route, especially at places such as forks or crossroads. The network is maintained in France by the ''Fédération Française de la Randonnée Pédestre'' (French Hiking Federation), and in Spain by the ''Federación Española de Deportes de Montaña y Escalada'' (Spanish Mountain Sports Federation). Orge
The Orge () is a long river in France, left tributary of the Seine. Its source is in the village Saint-Martin-de-Bréthencourt. Its course crosses the '' départements'' of Yvelines and Essonne. It flows northwest through the towns of Dourdan, Saint-Chéron, Breuillet, Arpajon, and Savigny-sur-Orge, finally flowing into the Seine in Athis-Mons, south of Paris. The towns located on the banks of the river usually have s/ Orge added to their name (i.e. Épinay-sur-Orge, Longpont-sur-Orge, Villiers-sur-Orge). The Yvette is a tributary of the Orge. The forest of Rambouillet (french: Forêt de Rambouillet), also known as the forest of Yveline () is a large forest covering some 200 km² (77 square miles), located to the west of Paris, in the Île-de-France region of France. The town of Rambouillet, after which it is named, lies on its southern edge. Geography On 26 December 1999, hurricane Lothar hit the northern half of France, wreaking havoc to forests and parks. Montfort-l'Amaury () is a commune in the Yvelines department in the Île-de-France region, north central France. It is located north of Rambouillet. The name comes from Amaury I de Montfort, the first ''seigneur'' (lord) of Montfort. Geography Montfort-l'Amaury lies north of the Rambouillet Forest. It is located at the foot of low hills, at about 130 m above sea level. History King Robert II built a castle in 996 in the hills of Montfort. Montfort-l'Amaury was the stronghold of the Montfort family from the start of the 11th century. Amaury I built the ramparts.
