GPS Rugby
GPS Rugby Club, colloquially known as GPS, is an Australian rugby union club based at Ashgrove in Brisbane that plays in the Queensland Premier Rugby competition. GPS also participates in the Brisbane Grades and Colts competitions, and in the "Golden Oldies" competition for the over 35's. The club has produced more than fifty Wallabies, including Ben Tune, Daniel Herbert, and Matt Cockbain, and many other representative and professional players. Club names "Jeeps" is derived from "GPS Old Boys", which was adopted as the name of the club in the 1930s. The club traces its origins back to 1887, when the "Past & Present Grammar Club" was formed from teachers, students, and past students of the Brisbane Grammar School (BGS). "Past & Present Grammar" evolved into "Past Grammar", and eventually "BGS Old Boys". The Global Positioning System (GPS), originally Navstar GPS, is a satellite-based radionavigation system owned by the United States government and operated by the United States Space Force. Herbert Bullmore
Herbert Henry Bullmore MB ChB Edin MRCPE FRACP (12 July 1874 – 28 December 1937) was a rugby union player who represented Scotland, a leading physician and the grandfather of Australian media magnate Kerry Packer. Life history Bullmore was born in Ipswich, Queensland in 1874, the only son, along with five daughters, of grazier and unsuccessful political candidate Edward Augustus Bullmore, Esq and Caroline Frederica Bullmore, and was educated at Ipswich Grammar School, Queensland. While in Australia, Bullmore made a name for himself as a sportsman, going as far as being chosen to represent Queensland at rugby union. McLean Family
The McLean family were an Australian rugby clan who between them played 77 Tests for the Australian national rugby union team and a number of Tests for the Australian national rugby league team. The main grandstand at Ballymore, the home of the Queensland Rugby Union, is named the McLean Stand in honour of the family's contribution to Queensland rugby and Australian rugby. Doug McLean Sr. Douglas James McLean (1880–1947) was the patriarch. He was a pioneer Australian representative rugby union and rugby league player, a dual code international. Bill McLean
William Malcolm McLean (28 February 1918 – 9 December 1996) was an Australian soldier and a state and national representative rugby union player who captained the Wallabies in five Test matches immediately after World War II. Pre-war rugby Like their father, Doug McLean, Sr., Bill's older brother Doug, Jr. had represented for Australia in both rugby codes before Bill left school. Bill too was a promising sportsman – goalkeeper in the 1938 Queensland Water Polo Team and rowing in Surf Boat crews winning the Queensland state championship in 1938. He pursued a rugby career and in 1938 played with the GPS club in Brisbane and made his representative debut with state selection the following year. Winston Ide
Winston Philip James Ide (17 September 1914 – 12 September 1944) was an Australian rugby union player. Ide played two Tests for the Australian rugby union team in 1938. He died during the sinking of the ''Rakuyō Maru'' in 1944. Ide was a member of the Wallabies team sent to tour Great Britain in 1939. The outbreak of World War II saw the tour cancelled the day after the team had arrived at Plymouth. On return to Australia, Ide joined the Second Australian Imperial Force and was sent to Malaya with the 2/10th Field Regiment. He was captured during the Fall of Singapore and interned in Changi Prison as a prisoner-of-war. Ide was later forced by the Japanese to work on the construction of the Burma Railway. In 1944 Ide was boarded on the '' Rakuyō Maru''—a Japanese "Hell Ship"—to be taken to Japan to work.
