GOST
GOST (russian: ГОСТ) refers to a set of international technical standards maintained by the ''Euro-Asian Council for Standardization, Metrology and Certification (EASC)'', a regional standards organization operating under the auspices of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). All sorts of regulated standards are included, with examples ranging from charting rules for design documentation to recipes and nutritional facts of Soviet-era brand names. The latter have become generic, but may only be sold under the label if the technical standard is followed, or renamed if they are reformulated. The notion of GOST has certain significance and recognition in the countries of the standards' jurisdiction. The Russian government Federal Agency on Technical Regulating and Metrology (Rosstandart) has ''gost.ru'' as its website address. GOST 7396
GOST 7396 (''ГОСТ 7396'' in Cyrillic) is a series of Soviet and later Russian standards that specify basic dimensions and safety requirements for power plugs and sockets used in Russia and other former Soviet Republics, as well as for export to markets that use American or British plugs. Many official standards in Eastern Europe are virtually identical to the Schuko standard. One of the protocols governing the reunification of Germany required that the DIN and VDE standards would prevail without exception, so the former East Germany had to conform to the Schuko standard. Most other Eastern European countries use the Schuko standard internally but, prior to its collapse, they exported large volumes of appliances to the Soviet Union with the Soviet standard plug installed. Because of that, many of the Russian plugs found their way into other Eastern European countries. One peculiarity of the Soviet standard is the use of an ungrounded plug with 4.0 mm diameter pins for 6  ...

Gosstandart
Gosstandart (russian: Госстандарт) was the Soviet government agency responsible for standardization, metrology, and quality management. The name is an abbreviation for ''Gosudarstvennyy standart'' (‘State Standard’). History Established in 1925 as a committee for standardization within the USSR Council of Labor and Defence, ''Gosstandart'' was at first put in charge of inspecting measuring instruments used in industrial and agricultural production and later was tasked with developing, updating, and disseminating GOST standards. Over the course of its existence, the agency was reformed a number of times, receiving a new name with each transformation: the ''National Committee for Standardization''; the ''Committee for Standards, Metrology, and Measuring Instruments''; the ''State Committee for Standards''; the ''State Committee for Standards and Product Quality Management''. The agency received its nickname, ''Gosstandart'', in 1970. Later years After the dissolutio ...

Tushonka
Tushonka ( rus, тушёнка, p=tʊˈʂonkə, from тушение — 'braising') is a canned stewed meat especially popular in Russia and other countries of the former Eastern Bloc. It has become a common name for different kinds of canned stewed meat, not all of which correspond to the strict GOST standards. Tushonka can be used and preserved in extreme situations, and therefore is a part of military food supplies in the CIS. For the people of the Soviet Union, tushonka was a part of military and tourist food supplies; at some extreme periods of time it could only be bought with food stamps.Grover J. Sims -Meat and meat animals in World War II 1951 - Page 80 "The CCC also bought beef Tushonka for lend-lease shipment to Russia. Purchases, however, did not begin until 1944. Contracts let in that year totaled 34 million pounds; in 1945 purchases were slightly less. Beef Tushonka is prepared in the ..." Country Code
Country codes are short alphabetic or numeric geographical codes (geocodes) developed to represent countries and dependent areas, for use in data processing and communications. Several different systems have been developed to do this. The term ''country code'' frequently refers to ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 or international dialing codes, the E.164 country calling codes. ISO 3166-1 This standard defines for most of the countries and dependent areas in the world: *a two-letter (ISO 3166-1 alpha-2) *a three-letter (ISO 3166-1 alpha-3), and *a three-digit numeric (ISO 3166-1 numeric) code. The two-letter codes are used as the basis for some other codes or applications, for example, *for ISO 4217 currency codes and *with deviations, for country code top-level domain names (ccTLDs) on the Internet: list of Internet TLDs. For more applications see ISO 3166-1 alpha-2. Other country codes *European Union: **Before the 2004 EU enlargement the EU used the UN Road Traffic Conventions license ...

Standards Organization
A standards organization, standards body, standards developing organization (SDO), or standards setting organization (SSO) is an organization whose primary function is developing, coordinating, promulgating, revising, amending, reissuing, interpreting, or otherwise contributing to the usefulness of technical standards to those who employ them. Such an organization works to create uniformity across producers, consumers, government agencies, and other relevant parties regarding terminology, product specifications (e.g. size, including units of measure), protocols, and more. Its goals could include ensuring that Company A's external hard drive works on Company B's computer, an individual's blood pressure measures the same with Company C's sphygmomanometer as it does with Company D's, or that all shirts that should not be ironed have the same icon (a clothes iron crossed out with an X) on the label. Most standards are voluntary in the sense that they are offered for adoption by people ...

Russian Tube Designations
Vacuum tubes produced in the former Soviet Union and in present-day Russia carry their own unique designations. It consisted of one or two letters and a number with up to 3 digits denoting the production number First letter: System type: *B (Russian: Б) – Power oscillator tube or barretter *V (Russian: В) – Rectifier *G (Russian: Г) – Transmitting tube ("генераторная" "generator") * J (Russian: Ж) – Low-power oscillator tube *M (Russian: M) – Modulator *N (Russian: Н) – AF amplifier *P (Russian: П) – Receiver tube *S (Russian: С) – Special tube, such as a tetrode, a pentode or a CRT *T (Russian: Т) – Carrier frequency tube *U (Russian: У) – Amplifier tube Second letter (optional): Type of cathode: *B (Russian: Б) – Barium-coated *K (Russian: К) – Carburized * ...
