GH Turbine GT-25000
The GT-25000 is an industrial and marine gas turbine produced by CSIC Longjiang GH Gas Turbine Corporation, Ltd, a subsidiary of China Shipbuilding Industry Company (CSIC). Development In 1993, China and Ukraine signed the UGT-25000 Gas Turbine Production License and Single Unit Sales Contract. Under the contract, Ukraine was to sell 10 units of the DA80 (export designation of the UGT25000) gas turbines to China as well as a transfer of related technologies and technical documentation. The funding from China in exchange for transfer of technology stopped the project from being cancelled by Ukraine. They were planned to be used on the PLA Navy's future warships such as the 052B and 052C destroyers. However, they had blade problems and the last two 052Cs, hulls 512 and 513 built at Jiangnan Shipyard sat pierside for more than two years without being accepted by the PLAN. In 1998, the localisation process of the gas turbine was started and three entities were involved: No. 703 r ...

Type 052D Destroyer
The Type 052D destroyer (NATO/ OSD Luyang III-class destroyer) is a class of guided-missile destroyers in the Chinese People's Liberation Army Navy. The Type 052D is a larger variant of the Type 052C; the Type 052D uses a canister-type, instead of revolver-type, vertical launching system (VLS)Li: page 44 and has flat-panelled active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar.McDevitt: page 62 The new VLS is not limited to surface-to-air missiles, making the Type 052D China's first dedicated multi-role destroyer. Etymology Chinese media informally calls the Type 052D the Chinese Aegis, portraying it as a peer of contemporary United States Navy ships equipped with the Aegis Combat System.Holmes: page 4 The appearance of the Type 052D, with flat-panelled radar and canister-based VLS, has encouraged this informal use. Design Sensors The Type 052D is equipped with Type 346A AESA and Type 518 L-band radar. The Type 052D is also equipped with both variable depth (VDS) and linear tow ...

Rolls-Royce MT30
The Rolls-Royce MT30 (Marine Turbine) is a marine gas turbine engine based on the Rolls-Royce Trent 800 aero engine. The MT30 retains 80% commonality with the Trent 800, the engine for the Boeing 777. The maximum power rating is 40 MW and minimum efficient power 25 MW. Rolls-Royce announced the MT30 program on 11 September 2001. The first run of the engine was on 6 September 2002. In early 2003 the MT30 was selected to power the Royal Navy Queen Elizabeth-class aircraft carrier, future aircraft carriers (CVFs) and the demonstrator of the US Navy's DD(X) multi-mission destroyer. In June 2004 Lockheed Martin awarded the engine contract to the MT30 for its littoral combat ship design. In 2012 the company repackaged the MT30 so that it would fit into smaller ships, and the first such order came from South Korea, for its s. Rolls-Royce WR-21
The Rolls-Royce WR-21 is a gas turbine marine engine, designed with a view to powering the latest naval surface combatants of the partner nations. History Developed with government funding input from the United Kingdom, France and the United States, the WR-21 was designed and manufactured by an international consortium led by Northrop Grumman as prime contractor. The turbine itself was designed primarily by Rolls-Royce Holdings, Rolls-Royce with significant marine engineering and test facility input from DCNS (company), DCN, with Northrop Grumman responsible for the intercooler, the recuperator and system integration. WR-21 development draws heavily on the technology of the successful Rolls-Royce RB211 and Rolls-Royce Trent, Trent families of gas turbines. The original design and development of the WR-21 was carried out by Westinghouse Electric Corporation (later Northrop Grumman Marine Systems) under a US Navy contract placed in December 1991. Later the Royal Navy and the Frenc ...

General Electric LM2500
The General Electric LM2500 is an industrial and marine gas turbine produced by GE Aviation. The LM2500 is a derivative of the General Electric CF6 aircraft engine. As of 2004, the U.S. Navy and at least 29 other navies had used a total of more than one thousand LM2500/LM2500+ gas turbines to power warships. Other uses include hydrofoils, hovercraft and fast ferries. In 2012, GE developed an FPSO version to serve the oil and gas industry's demand for a lighter, more compact version to generate electricity and drive compressors to send natural gas through pipelines. Design and development The LM2500 was first used on the US Navy in 1969, after the original FT-4 gas turbines experienced many technical problems. Later, they were used in US Navy warships in the of destroyers and the related , which were constructed from 1970. In this configuration it was rated to . This configuration was subsequently used into the 1980s in the s, and s. It was also used by one of People's Re ...

Type 055 Destroyer
The Type 055 destroyer (NATO/ OSD Renhai-class cruiser) is a class of stealth guided-missile destroyers (guided-missile cruisers per NATO/OSD standard) being constructed for the Chinese People's Liberation Army Navy. It is a multi-mission design; the combination of sensors and weapons suggests a main role of area air defence, with anti-submarine warfare capabilities surpassing previous Chinese surface combatants. The Type 055 is expected to undertake expeditionary missions and form the primary escort for Chinese aircraft carriers. The United States classifies these ships as cruisers. The United States Navy defines a cruiser as a large multi-mission surface combatant with flag facilities; this suggests the U.S. expects the Type 055 to fulfill a similar role as the . Development The People's Liberation Army Navy was interested in a large destroyer from as early as the late-1960s. A development program, code-named "055", initiated in 1976 was cancelled in 1983 after encounterin ...

Zorya-Mashproekt
Zorya-Mashproekt ( uk, ДП НВКГ «Зоря» — «Машпроект») is a research and production complex that specializes in a gas turbine construction. The complex is located in the city of Mykolaiv, Ukraine and is part of the Ukrainian Defense Industries (Ukroboronprom) state corporation. History The idea of creating a factory in production of steam turbines in Ukraine arose soon after World War II. On July 9, 1946 the Soviet government adopted a decision on establishing of the factory in Mykolaiv, while the city authorities found a spot in the southeastern suburbs of the city near a military airfield Kulbakine. The preparatory works started out in March 1948, while the construction stretched out for the next five years. Initially the factory was called the Southern Turbine Plant. Following the 2014 Crimean crisis, the Ukrainians refused to supply the Russian Navy with marine gas turbines from Zorya-Mashproekt, and so NPO Saturn has been commissioned to design new ...

Gas Turbine
A gas turbine, also called a combustion turbine, is a type of continuous flow internal combustion engine. The main parts common to all gas turbine engines form the power-producing part (known as the gas generator or core) and are, in the direction of flow: * a rotating gas compressor * a combustor * a compressor-driving turbine. Additional components have to be added to the gas generator to suit its application. Common to all is an air inlet but with different configurations to suit the requirements of marine use, land use or flight at speeds varying from stationary to supersonic. A propelling nozzle is added to produce thrust for flight. An extra turbine is added to drive a propeller (turboprop) or ducted fan (turbofan) to reduce fuel consumption (by increasing propulsive efficiency) at subsonic flight speeds. An extra turbine is also required to drive a helicopter rotor or land-vehicle transmission (turboshaft), marine propeller or electrical generator (power turbine). Greater ...
