GHK Algorithm
The GHK algorithm (Geweke, Hajivassiliou and Keane) is an importance sampling method for simulating choice probabilities in the multivariate probit model. These simulated probabilities can be used to recover parameter estimates from the maximized likelihood equation using any one of the usual well known maximization methods (Newton's method, BFGS, etc.). Train has well documented steps for implementing this algorithm for a multinomial probit model. What follows here will applies to the binary multivariate probit model. Consider the case where one is attempting to evaluate the choice probability of \Pr(\mathbf , \mathbf, \Sigma) where \mathbf = (y_1, ..., y_J), \ (i = 1,...,N) and where we can take j as choices and i as individuals or observations, \mathbf is the mean and \Sigma is the covariance matrix of the model. The probability of observing choice \mathbf is : \begin \Pr(\mathbf, \mathbf, \Sigma) = & \int_\cdots\int_f_N(\mathbf^*_i, \mathbf, \Sigma) dy^*_1\do ... Glasgow High Kelvinside
Glasgow High Kelvinside , often abbreviated to GHK, is an amateur rugby union club in Glasgow, Scotland. They currently play in Scottish National League Division One. History Glasgow High Kelvinside was formed in 1982 by the merger of Kelvinside Academy and High School of Glasgow rugby clubs; Kelvinside Academicals and Glasgow HSFP. Both Glasgow High FP and Kelvinside Accies were struggling clubs at the time: Glasgow High in the Third Division; Kelvinside Academicals in the Fifth Division. Impact of professionalism When professionalism was finally allowed by the International Rugby Football Board in 1995, Scotland took a while to adapt. The SRU decided to make Scotland's four district teams professional in 1996. Glasgow's district team became the professional rugby union team now known as Glasgow Warriors. However it was recognised that the amateur Glasgow clubs might provide a better pathway to professionalism for their players if some of the amateur Glasgow area clubs mer ... Goldman–Hodgkin–Katz Flux Equation
The Goldman–Hodgkin–Katz flux equation (or GHK flux equation or GHK current density equation) describes the ionic flux across a cell membrane as a function of the transmembrane potential and the concentrations of the ion inside and outside of the cell. Since both the voltage and the concentration gradients influence the movement of ions, this process is a simplified version of ''electrodiffusion''. Electrodiffusion is most accurately defined by the Nernst–Planck equation and the GHK flux equation is a solution to the Nernst–Planck equation with the assumptions listed below. Origin The American David E. Goldman of Columbia University, and the English Nobel laureates Alan Lloyd Hodgkin and Bernard Katz derived this equation. Assumptions Several assumptions are made in deriving the GHK flux equation (Hille 2001, p. 445) : * The membrane is a homogeneous substance * The electrical field is constant so that the transmembrane potential varies linearly across the membra ... Goldman–Hodgkin–Katz Voltage Equation
The Goldman–Hodgkin–Katz voltage equation, more commonly known as the Goldman equation, is used in cell membrane physiology to determine the reversal potential across a cell's membrane, taking into account all of the ions that are permeant through that membrane. The discoverers of this are David E. Goldman of Columbia University, and the Medicine Nobel laureates Alan Lloyd Hodgkin and Bernard Katz. Equation for monovalent ions The GHK voltage equation for M monovalent positive ionic species and A negative: :E_ = \frac \ln This results in the following if we consider a membrane separating two \mathrm_\mathrm_\mathrm-solutions: :E_ = \frac \ln It is "Nernst-like" but has a term for each permeant ion: :E_ = \frac \ln=\frac \ln *E_ = the membrane potential (in volts, equivalent to joules per coulomb) *P_\mathrm = the selectivity for that ion (in meters per second) * mathrm\mathrm = the extracellular concentration of that ion (in moles per cubic meter, to match the other ... Gush Katif Airport
Gush Katif Airport was a small airfield in the Gaza Strip approximately north of the town of Khan Yunis, and adjacent to the UNRWA Khan Younis refugee camp. It was immediately west of the former Israeli settlement of Ganei Tal, and named after the former Israeli settlement area of Gush Katif. Following the destruction of the Yasser Arafat International Airport it was briefly the only usable runway in the Gaza Strip, but in 2004 it was abandoned, and was overbuilt by 2015. History The airstrip should not be confused with RAF Gaza, which was in the vicinity of the present day Karni Crossing. After the 1948 Palestinian exodus, 35,000 refugees took shelter in a camp to the south of the present day airfield. This has become the UNRWA Khan Younis camp. As part of the unilateral disengagement of Israel from Gaza, Israeli settlers were evicted from the Gush Katif area in 2005. In 2004, the airfield was in a good state of repair. The runway was kept clear, and runway markings wer ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |
