GAS Kilkis
GAS Kilkis (full name: Gymnastic Athletic Club Kilkis, el, Αθλητικός Γυμναστικός Σύλλογος Κιλκίς, Γ.Α.Σ. Κιλκίς) is a Greek handball and beach handball club based in Kilkis. It was founded in 1980 and has played in A1 ethniki (first-tier division) many consecutive years. It has won one cup, in 2004. The home arena of the club is the municipal gymnasium of Kilkis and the club's colours are blue and red. History GAS Kilkis was founded in 1980. Few year later it promoted to A1 Ethniki and the 1993–94 season played in the final of the championship. Overall, GAS Kilkis has played three times in the finals of the championship and ranked in 2nd place, the years 1994, 2000 and 2008. Greek Men's Handball Championship
The Greek Men's Handball Championship, or Handball Premier, is the most important competition of Greek handball. The competition which is organised by Hellenic Handball Federation (Greek: ΟΧΕ) started in 1979–80 season. The most successful team is Ionikos Nea Filadelfeia who has won ten titles. The last title was won by Olympiacos. Evangelos Kalfarentzos, fitness director of the Panhellenic Gymnastics Association of Athens (Panellinios), physical education teacher and author, recognized as rapporteur of the sport in Greece. Competition Format The season begins with a tournament between the twelve teams. The first six teams qualify for a play-off round, while the last three plays play-out. Handball
Handball (also known as team handball, European handball or Olympic handball) is a team sport in which two teams of seven players each (six outcourt players and a goalkeeper) pass a ball using their hands with the aim of throwing it into the goal of the other team. A standard match consists of two periods of 30 minutes, and the team that scores more goals wins. Modern handball is played on a court of , with a goal in the middle of each end. The goals are surrounded by a zone where only the defending goalkeeper is allowed; goals must be scored by throwing the ball from outside the zone or while "diving" into it. Beach Handball
Beach handball is a team sport where two teams pass and bounce or roll a ball, trying to throw it in the goal of the opposing team. The game is similar to standard handball, but it is played on sand instead of on a solid floor. Because the ball loses most of its bounce on sand, there is little to no dribbling, and players instead perform more passing as the rules of travelling still apply. Description Matches are played as best two-out-of-three sets. If teams are tied at the end of a regular set then the teams play for a golden goal. If the teams are tied at the end of 2 sets then the teams will participate in a tie breaker. The tie break involves a goalie throwing the ball to their own player while that player attempts to score one-on-one with the opposing goalie. Kilkis
Kilkis ( el, Κιλκίς) is a city in Central Macedonia, Greece. As of 2011 there were 22,914 people living in the city proper, 28,745 people living in the municipal unit, and 51,926 in the municipality of Kilkis. It is also the capital city of the regional unit of Kilkis (regional unit), Kilkis. The area of Kilkis, during the 20th century, became several times a war theatre; during the Macedonian Struggle, the Balkan Wars, WWI, WWII, the Greek Resistance and the Greek civil war. The Greek Handball Cup is the second more important competition of Greek handball. The Cup is organised by the Hellenic Handball Federation (Greek: ΟΧΕ). The first Cup took place in 1982–83 season.
