G. Dutton Green
George Dutton Green (1 May 1850 – 27 April 1911) was a land agent, auctioneer and politician in the colony of South Australia. He was generally referred to as "Dutton Green" and adopted it as his family name, occasionally hyphenated. He was born in North Adelaide, the eldest son of George Green who founded the real-estate firm of Green & Co. on King William Street in 1848. He was educated at St. Peter's College, and in Brighton, England. He joined his father's firm in 1867, and took it over in 1871, with Colonel J. Chapman Lovely (c. 1837 – 11 November 1915) as partner, when his father retired. In 1879, supported by the Rymill brothers and several other businessmen, he established a new stock exchange (one of two competing schemes), on land known as "King's timber yard" in Pirie Street; they hired Edmund W. An auction is usually a process of buying and selling goods or services by offering them up for bids, taking bids, and then selling the item to the highest bidder or buying the item from the lowest bidder. Olive Dutton Green (February 1878 – 5 July 1930) was a noted Australian artist, born in Adelaide, a daughter of politician and real-estate agent George Dutton Green (1850–1911). South Terrace is one of the four terraces which bound the city centre of Adelaide, the capital of South Australia. It is the southern edge of the city centre, and is bounded by the Adelaide parklands to the south, including Veale Gardens and Adelaide Himeji Garden. John Cox Bray
Sir John Cox Bray (31 May 1842 – 13 June 1894) was a prominent South Australian politician and the first native-born Premier of South Australia (1881–1884). Early life and education John Cox Bray was born in East Adelaide, a son of Tom Cox Bray (1815–1881), shoemaker from Portsmouth, Hampshire, and Sarah Bray, née Pink, (1813–1877), from the same county. John was the second of their four sons (with two daughters), all born in Adelaide. Educated at St. Peter's College and in England, Bray read law in South Australia, being articled to W. T. Foster, and was called to the South Australian Bar in November 1870. He joined the able lawyer J. B. Sheridan in partnership as Bray and Sheridan, but his mercurial temperament made him ill-suited to the practice of law; however, he had the wit and debating skills for a life of politics. East Adelaide was an electoral district of the South Australian Legislative Council from 1851 to 1857 and an electoral district of the South Australian House of Assembly from 1862 to 1902. First incarnation East Adelaide was a seat of the unicameral South Australian Legislative Council from 1851 until that council's abolition in 1857.
