G. Lloyd Preacher
Geoffrey Lloyd Preacher (May 11, 1882 – June 17, 1972) was an American architect. Based in Atlanta, Preacher and his firm specialized mostly in commercial offices, hotels, and apartment buildings in the Southeastern United States. History Preacher was born on May 11, 1882 in Fairfax, South Carolina. He graduated from Clemson Agricultural College of South Carolina (now known as Clemson University) in 1904 and found work as a draftsman, a profession he would hold until 1909. In 1911, Preacher won a design competition and soon after began a successful architecture career in Augusta, Georgia. Throughout his career, Preacher designed 417 structures in seven states, including 45 schools in Atlanta. The Carnegie Building is a historic building located at 141 Carnegie Way in downtown Atlanta, Georgia, United States. Built in 1925 as the Wynne-Claughton Building, the 12-story building was designed by architect G. Lloyd Preacher. The John F. Seagle Building (also known as Hotel Kelley or the Dixie Hotel) is a historic building located at 408 West University Avenue in Gainesville, Florida, in the United States. Built in 1926, it was designed by noted University of Florida architect and professor Rudolph Weaver and built by G. Lloyd Preacher & Company. On August 16, 1982, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places as the Dixie Hotel, Hotel Kelley. The Orange Court Hotel was a historic Spanish Revival Orlando hotel constructed in 1924. It was demolished in 1990. Asa Griggs Candler (December 30, 1851 – March 12, 1929) was an American business tycoon and politician who in 1888 purchased the Coca-Cola formula, Coca-Cola recipe for $238.98 from chemist John Stith Pemberton in Atlanta Georgia, Atlanta, Georgia. Candler founded The Coca-Cola Company in 1892 and developed it as a major company. Rainbow Terrace, now known as Lullwater Estate, is the Mediterranean-style Atlanta mansion built for Lucy Beall Candler Owens Heinz (1882–1962), daughter of Coca-Cola co-founder Asa Griggs Candler. The architect was G. Lloyd Preacher, the architect of Atlanta City Hall. It is located at what is now 1610 Ponce de Leon Avenue in the Druid Hills Historic District. Medical Arts Building (Atlanta, Georgia)
The Medical Arts Building is a Beaux-Arts style building located at the northern end of Downtown Atlanta. The 12-story brick and limestone building by architect G. Lloyd Preacher, also designer of Atlanta City Hall, was constructed in 1927. In addition to its medical facilities - deemed as some of the most modern and well-equipped when it opened, the building once featured a cafeteria, drugstore and telegraph office. It was also amongst the first to have a covered parking garage. However, its nearly of space have been vacant since 1995. Recent history In 2001, the building was included on the Atlanta Preservation Center's List of Endangered Buildings. Lincoln County Courthouse (Lincolnton, Georgia)
The Lincoln County Courthouse, on Courthouse Sq. in Lincolnton, Georgia, was built in 1915. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. It has a Doric order, Doric tetrastyle projecting two-story portico with entablatures and a heavy cornice. It is topped by domed clock tower, which rises in the center of the building. The building has rectangular windows everywhere but for the courtroom, which has round-arched ones. The courtroom "ceiling is coved and has large recessed squares overhead. Pilasters atop painted panel wainscoting surround the courtroom. The egg and dart motif is used in the cornice. There is a skylight in the center of the room directly under the clock tower which has frosted glass panels, muting the sunlight that shines into the room." Includes a photo from 1980.
