Færder Lighthouse
Færder Lighthouse ( no, Færder fyr) is a coastal lighthouse in the municipality of Færder in Vestfold og Telemark, Norway. The lighthouse is located on the archipelago Tristein, three small islands in the outer Oslofjord. It was first lit in 1857 as a replacement of the former Store Færder Lighthouse. A lighthouse is a tower, building, or other type of physical structure designed to emit light from a system of lamps and lenses and to serve as a beacon for navigational aid, for maritime pilots at sea or on inland waterways. Færder is a municipality in Vestfold in Vestfold og Telemark county, Norway. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Borgheim. The municipality was established in 2018 by the unification of the former municipalities of Tjøme and Nøtterøy. The municipality is the 380th largest by area out of the 422 municipalities in Norway. Færder is the 39th most populous municipality in Norway with a population of 26,676. The municipality's population density is and its population has increased by 7.6% over the last decade. The Færder National Park, which was established in 2013, comprises islands and sea area east of the municipality. Vestfold Og Telemark
Vestfold og Telemark (; ) is a county under disestablishment in Norway. The county is the southernmost one of Eastern Norway and consists of two distinct and separate traditional regions: the former counties of Telemark and (most of) Vestfold. The capital is located at the town of Skien, which is also the county's largest city. While Skien is the seat of the county municipality, the seat of the County Governor is Tønsberg. It borders the counties of Viken, Vestland, Rogaland and Agder. Telemark voted against the merger, on the basis that the regions have nothing in common and do not constitute a natural geographical, cultural, social or political entity. Oslofjord
The Oslofjord (, ; en, Oslo Fjord) is an inlet in the south-east of Norway, stretching from an imaginary line between the and lighthouses and down to in the south to Oslo in the north. Store Færder Lighthouse
Store Færder Lighthouse ( no, Færder fyr) is a former coastal lighthouse in the municipality of Tjøme in Vestfold og Telemark, Norway. The lighthouse was located on the island of Store Færder, first lit in 1696. From the start the light was simply an iron pot placed on the ground. Later a stone tower was built, finished in 1802. A lens was installed in 1852. In 1857 the lighthouse was replaced by the new Færder Lighthouse on Tristein. The stone tower at Store Færder is now in ruins. The ruins along with the other station buildings are listed as a protected site. The coast of Norway is 100,915 km long and there have been a total of 212 lighthouses along it, but no more than 154 have ever been operational at the same time. The first, Lindesnes Lighthouse, opened in 1655; the newest Lighthouse, Anda, was finished in 1932. The first Lighthouses were private operations, but in 1821 the government made the Channel and Harbor Inspector responsible for Lighthouses in Norway. A dedicated Lighthouse Administration was set up in 1841. The Lighthouses are today mostly automated and since 1974, run by the Norwegian Coastal Administration. Two lightvessels had been operated along the Norwegian coast.
