Fulton-Randolph Market District
Fulton Market District is on the Near West Side of Chicago. In the 19th and 20th centuries, it served meat-packing, warehouse and industrial purposes, but has gentrified in the 21st century with corporate headquarters, tech industry, hotels, bars, restaurants, and retail. Randolph Street and Lake Street are the main East-West streets, and Halsted Street the major North-South artery. The district's name commemorates American inventor Robert Fulton and it is just across the expressway from the Fulton River District to the east. Granted Landmark District status by the City of Chicago in 2015, the district is around 74 acres in size. It is served by the CTA's Green and Pink Lines at the Morgan 'L' station, as well as several bus routes. It borders the Warehouse District to the east, and the West Loop to the west. Morgan Station
Morgan is a rapid transit station on the Chicago "L"'s Green and Pink Lines in Chicago's Near West Side neighborhood. The current station opened at this location in 2012, where a previous station stood from 1893 to 1949. The original station on this site opened with the Lake Street Elevated in November 1893 and closed due to low ridership in April 1948 before being demolished early the following year. For the rest of the 20th century, the nearby Halsted station served the community before it too closed in 1994, leaving a sizeable gap between Clinton and Ashland. The Pink Line is an rapid transit line in Chicago, run by the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) as part of the Chicago "L" system. It is the CTA's newest rail line and began operation for a 180-day trial period on June 25, 2006, running between 54th/Cermak station in Cicero, Illinois and the Loop in downtown Chicago. The Green Line is a rapid transit line on the Chicago Transit Authority's "L" system. It is a completely elevated route in the "L" system; all other routes may have various combinations of elevated, subway, street level (at grade), or freeway median sections.
