Fukien Secondary School
The Fukien Secondary School () is a Direct Subsidy Scheme co-educational school in Ngau Tau Kok, Kowloon, Hong Kong. It is sponsored by the Fukien Chamber of Commerce and was founded in 1951. History The school was founded by the Fukien Chamber of Commerce in 1951 in an apartment building in Western. It moved to a new campus on Java Road in North Point in 1966, and then to Kwun Tong in September 2000. Amid criticism of falling English standards among Hong Kong students in the late 1990s, the Education Department invited ten Chinese medium schools to teach a maximum of three subjects in English. Under this scheme the school began in 2000 to offer an English stream, teaching certain history, math, and science courses using English. Starting from 2013-2014, all junior secondary classes (S1-S3) have adopted English as the medium of instruction. The school has a policy of "bi-literacy and tri-lingualism". Ngau Tau Kok
Ngau Tau Kok is an area of eastern Kowloon in Hong Kong, in the north of Kwun Tong District east to Kowloon Bay. Largely residential, Ngau Tau Kok has a population in excess of 210,000. Geography In Chinese, Ngau Tau Kok means ''ox horn'' or ''ox head cape'': before the reclamation of Kowloon Bay, the coastline of Ngau Tau Kok was shaped like the horn of an ox. Direct Subsidy Scheme
The Direct Subsidy Scheme (DSS) is instituted by the Education Bureau of Hong Kong to enhance the quality of private schools at the primary and secondary levels. The Hong Kong government has been encouraging non-government secondary schools which have attained a sufficiently high educational standard to join the DSS by providing subsidies to enhance the quality of private school education since the 1991–92 school year. In the 2000–01 school year, the DSS was extended to primary schools. In the 2001–02 school year, the terms of the DSS were significantly improved to attract more schools to join the scheme. Under the scheme, schools are free to decide on their curriculum, fees, and entrance requirements. Standard Non-government schools must satisfy stipulated standards to be eligible to join the scheme. The Hong Kong Professional Teachers' Union (HKPTU) was a pro-democracy trade union, professional association and social concern group in Hong Kong. Yau Tong
Yau Tong () is an area of Hong Kong, located in the southeastern end of Kowloon, between Lei Yue Mun and Lam Tin, at the east shore of Victoria Harbour, west of Tseung Kwan O. Administratively, it is part of Kwun Tong District, the most densely populated district in Hong Kong. The northern part of Yau Tong is mainly residential, consisting of public housing, while the sea-facing location in the south is mainly used for industrial development. The southern area has been planned by the government as a private residential area, but there are still sporadic industrial buildings. Yau Tong is served by the MTR station Yau Tong station.
