Friðrik Ragnarsson
Friðrik Pétur Ragnarsson (born 9 January 1967) is an Icelandic former basketball player and a coach. Playing career Friðrik spent the majority of his career with Njarðvík, where he won the Icelandic national championships 6 times. He retired as a player after the 2001 Úrvalsdeild finals. Coaching career Friðrik coached for nine seasons in the Úrvalsdeild karla, winning the national championship in 2001 and 2002. Icelandic national team Between 1989 and 1999, Friðrik played 31 games for the Icelandic national team. Executive career Friðrik served as the chairman of Njarðvík's basketball department from 2017 to 2019. Personal life Friðrik is the father of Icelandic national team member Elvar Már Friðriksson and Úrvalsdeild point guard Ragnar Helgi Friðriksson. Point Guard
The point guard (PG), also called the one or the point, is one of the five Basketball positions, positions in a regulation basketball game. A point guard has perhaps the most specialized role of any position. Point guards are expected to run the team's offense by controlling the ball and making sure that it gets to the right player at the right time. Above all, the point guard must understand and accept their coach's game plan; in this way, the position can be compared to a quarterback in American football. Ungmennafélag Njarðvíkur
Ungmennafélag Njarðvíkur is an Icelandic multi-sports club based in Njarðvík, Reykjanesbær, on the south-west peninsula of Iceland. It is primarily known for its men's basketball team which has won the national championship 17 times. Its women's basketball team won the national championship and the basketball cup in 2012. The club also fields departments in football, swimming, power lifting, judo and triathlon. Colours The original uniform colours of the club where blue and white. In late 1973 the basketball department was in need of new uniforms and due to lack of funds they decided to select a colour that no other team was using, so they wouldn't have to buy two sets of uniforms. Elvar Már Friðriksson (born 11 November 1994) is an Icelandic professional basketball player for PAOK Thessaloniki of the Greek Basket League and the Basketball Champions League. He is also a member of the Icelandic national basketball team. He has twice been named to the Icelandic Úrvalsdeild Domestic All-First team as a member of Njarðvík. In 2020, he won the Swedish championship with Borås Basket. In 2021, he was named the Lithuanian Basketball League MVP after leading the league in assists. He was named the Icelandic Male Basketball Player of the Year in 2021 and 2022. Iceland Men's National Basketball Team
The Iceland men's national basketball team ( is, Íslenska karlalandsliðið í körfubolta) represents Iceland in international basketball tournaments. The team is controlled by the Icelandic Basketball Association. Iceland has qualified for the EuroBasket twice, with the national team making their first ever appearance in 2015. They also participate at smaller European tournaments, such as the Games of the Small States of Europe. Although Iceland has yet to make their debut entrance on to the global stage at the FIBA World Cup.
