Friedrich Hopp
Friedrich Ernst Hopp (23 August 1789 – 23 June 1869) was an Austrian actor and writer. Life Born in Brünn, Hopp was the son of a factory worker. Eichstätt 1879 From 1815 he was engaged at various theaters in Brünn, Graz, Bratislava and Baden bei Wien until he got a position at the Vienna Theater in der Josefstadt in 1822. Carl Carl
Karl Andreas Bernbrunn (1787–1854), known by the stage name Carl Carl, was a Kraków-born actor and theatre director. Bernbrunn was born illegitimately to Maria Anna Alxinger and Karl Andrä Bernbrunn. Maria Anna was the wife of the poet (1755–1797), and daughter of army supplier Abraham Wetzlar, who converted to Catholicism in 1776. Bernbrunn became an actor in Munich with Carl Weinmüller. In 1822 Bernbrunn became the director of the in Munich, and in 1826 became the director of the Theater an der Wien in Vienna. In 1838 he bought the Theater in der Leopoldstadt which he ran in parallel to the Theater an der Wien until 1845. The Theater in der Leopoldstadt was demolished and rebuilt in 1847 under the name Carltheater. In Munich Bernbrunn married Margarethe Lang. Bernbrunn died from a recurrent stroke on at Bad Ischl. Julius Hopp
Julius Hopp (18 May 1819 – 28 August 1885) was an Austrian composer, conductor, arranger and translator. Life and career Born in Graz, Empire of Austria, the son of the actor and poet Friedrich Hopp, Lucius became known in the 1860s and 1870s through his adaptations of Jacques Offenbach's operettas, which were mainly performed in the Theater an der Wien, where Hopp was Kapellmeister. He composed parodies, antics and folk plays and appeared as a translator of French operas and operettas. In particular Hopp's ''sparkling adaptations'' of the operettas of Jacques Offenbach (1819-1880) ensured the success of these works on Viennese soil and brought ''riches'' to theatre entrepreneurs whereby Hopp, due to his modesty, but not entirely through his own fault,. did not enjoy that ''shower of gold''.. Karl Haffner (pseudonym), real name Karl Schlechter, (8 November 1804 – 29 February 1876) was a German dramaturge. Life and work Born in Königsberg, Haffner attended the Collegium Fridericianum. Already at the age of 16 he joined a travelling troupe and as a travelling comedian he passed through Prussia, Saxony, Silesia, Austria and Hungary. After ten years he became a dramatist and playwright at the Pest Theater with Feodor Grimm, after he had already made some dramatic attempts before. In Pest he wrote tragedies like ''The robbery shooters, The curl of the decapitated, Blocks of the grave, Schwarzenberg and Palffy'' and ''Batorys Tod,'' which received the stormy applause of the audience. Carltheater
The Carltheater was a theatre in Vienna. It was in the suburbs in Leopoldstadt at Praterstraße 31 (at that time called Jägerzeile). It was the successor to the Leopoldstädter Theater. After a series of financial difficulties, that theater had been sold in 1838 to the director, Carl Carl, who continued to run it in parallel to his Theater an der Wien until 1845. Two years later, the building was partially demolished and rebuilt following the plans of architects August Sicard von Sicardsburg and Eduard van der Nüll, who would later design the Vienna State Opera. The theatre was opened under the name ''Carltheater'' in the same year, 1847. Many pieces by Johann Nepomuk Nestroy premiered here; between 1854 and 1860, Nestroy was the director of the theatre.
