"Freedom" is a song by Solange included on the soundtrack of the 2004 comedy film ''Johnson Family Vacation''. History Solange and her producers at Music World, the record label of Beyoncé Knowles and Destiny's Child, selected a track by Houston jazz-funk band Drop Trio for a new song by then-rising star Solange Knowles. Solange, who released her first album ''Solo Star'' in 2003, saw Drop Trio performing at a local club in Houston and suggested co-writing a song. The result is "Freedom", with lyrics and melody by Solange and instrumental track composed, produced and recorded by Drop Trio. Solange Piaget Knowles (; born June 24, 1986) is an American singer, songwriter, performance artist, and actress. Expressing an interest in music from an early age, Knowles had several temporary stints as a backup dancer for Destiny's Child, which featured her elder sister, Beyoncé Knowles, among its members, before signing with her father Mathew Knowles's Music World Entertainment label. ''Johnson Family Vacation'' is a 2004 American road comedy film directed by Christopher Erskin. It stars Cedric the Entertainer, Vanessa Williams, Bow Wow, Gabby Soleil, Shannon Elizabeth, Solange Knowles, and Steve Harvey. The story revolves around the Johnson family going on a road trip to attend a family reunion in Missouri and the numerous hijinks they occur along the way. The film is director Erskin's first and only feature film directorial project to date. It also marks the feature film debut of Jason Momoa. Drop Trio
Drop Trio is a jazz band from Houston, Texas, consisting of Michael "Nuje" Blattel (drums and percussion), Patrick Flanagan (bass guitar), and Ian Varley (keyboards). History Drop Trio started in 2002 when keyboardist Ian Varley, who had just moved to Houston, answered a classified ad on JazzHouston.com posted by drummer Michael Blattel "seeking keyboardist for jazz/funk trio". They played together, and wrote 2 songs immediately. Blattel then contacted his friend, bassist (and now photographer) Nino Batista, and asked him to jam with them.
