Frederick - Volume One is a compilation album released by Flying Dog Brewery and Frederick Playlist (a branch of the Frederick News Post ''The Frederick News-Post'' is the local newspaper of Frederick County, Maryland. It is composed of 15 artists and bands from the Frederick Maryland local music scene. Since moving to Frederick in 2006, Flying Dog Brewery has become a large supporter of the burgeoning Frederick music scene. After the brewery hosted a yearly summer concert series on the brewery property, in 2015 the album was released at the first annual Frederick Fall Fest, a mid-size music festival presented by Flying Dog. Frederick is a city in and the county seat of Frederick County, Maryland. It is part of the Baltimore–Washington Metropolitan Area. Indie Folk
Indie folk is a music genre that arose in the 1990s among musicians from indie rock scenes influenced by folk music. Indie folk hybridizes the acoustic guitar melodies of traditional folk music with contemporary instrumentation. The genre has its earliest origins in 1990s folk artists who displayed alternative rock influences in their music, such as Ani DiFranco and Dan Bern, and acoustic artists such as Elliott Smith and Will Oldham. Indie Rock
Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand from the 1970s to the 1980s. Originally used to describe independent record labels, the term became associated with the music they produced and was initially used interchangeably with alternative rock or "Pop rock, guitar pop rock". One of the primary scenes of the movement was Dunedin, where Dunedin sound, a cultural scene based around a convergence of noise pop and jangle became popular among the city's University of Otago, large student population. Flying Dog Brewery is a craft brewery located in Frederick, Maryland. It was founded in 1990 by George Stranahan and is the largest brewery in Maryland. As of 2017, Flying Dog is the 28th largest craft brewery in the United States. History A physicist with degrees from the California Institute of Technology and the Carnegie Institute of Technology who had previously co-founded the Aspen Center for Physics in 1962, George Stranahan left an associate professorship at Michigan State University in 1972 to assume ownership of the Flying Dog Ranch in Woody Creek, Colorado. ''The Frederick News-Post'' is the local newspaper of Frederick County, Maryland. In addition to discussing local news, the newspaper addresses international, national, and regional news. The paper publishes six days a week. History On October 15, 1883, a Frederick printing company first published ''The News'', an evening newspaper that would eventually become ''The Frederick News-Post''. William T. Delaplaine, grandfather of the current president of Great Southern, began his business career in Frederick in 1880 when he opened a small printing shop. He expanded the operation by establishing the first daily newspaper in Frederick, ''The News'', in October 1883. The business was incorporated in June 1888.
