Fred Thomas (manager)
Frederick L. Thomas was a professional baseball manager. In June 1887, Thomas was named manager for the Indianapolis Hoosiers of the National League. Thomas, who had front office duties with the team, took over from Watch Burnham after the team got off to a 6–22 start. Thomas had a managerial record of 11–18, before he was replaced by Horace Fogel in July. Accruing a record of 20–49 under Fogel, the 1887 Indianapolis Hoosiers finished the season at 37–89. Fred Thomas (Australian Politician)
Frederick Miles Thomas (18 January 1882 – 2 June 1960) was an Australian politician. He was born in Emerald Hill to boilermaker Frederick George Thomas and Mary Ann Benfield. He was a founding member of the Timber Workers' Union in 1898 and twice served as its president; he was its federal secretary in 1919. Around 1908 he married Helena Eliza Warren, with whom he had four children. He was a member of the Victorian Socialist Party and then the Labor Party, of which he was Collingwood branch secretary. From 1919 to 1936 he was an organiser with the Clothing Trades Union, and from 1937 to 1947 worked as a dog registrar and housing inspector for Collingwood City Council. In 1948 he was elected to the Victorian Legislative Council for Melbourne Province. Fred Thomas (bassist)
Fred Thomas is an American bassist best known for his work with singer James Brown for over thirty years. He performed on many R&B hits of the 1970s. His last recording is on the 2018 album ''We Came to Play''. Career Thomas grew up in the US state of Georgia. He moved to New York City in 1965 and co-founded his own band with guitarist Hearlon "Cheese" Martin. He was the bassist as well as the lead vocalist of the group. He said: "I did my own thing, which is to keep a nice bottom in the pocket. I never bothered with any fancy stuff because I always did the singing in my bands, and you can't be fancy and sing". In 1971 James Brown saw the band at Smalls Paradise club in Harlem. Brown was in search of new musicians for his own band. He did an impromptu performance with the band and decided to hire the whole group. Thomas said his band used to cover Brown's songs and that joining Brown was a smooth transition for them. Frederick William Thomas (21 March 1867 – 6 May 1956), usually cited as F. W. Thomas, was an English Indologist and Tibetologist. Life Thomas was born on 21 March 1867 in Tamworth, Staffordshire. After schooling at King Edward's School, Birmingham, he went up to Trinity College, Cambridge in 1885, graduating with a first class degree in both classics and Indian languages and being awarded a Browne medal in both 1888 and 1889. At Cambridge he studied Sanskrit under the influential Orientalist Edward Byles Cowell. He was a librarian at the India Office Library (now subsumed into the British Library) between 1898 and 1927. Simultaneously he was lecturer in comparative philology at University College, London from 1908 to 1935, Reader in Tibetan at London University from 1909 to 1937 and the Boden Professor of Sanskrit at Oxford University between 1927 and 1937, in which capacity he became a fellow of Balliol College. Frederick William Thomas (October 25, 1806 – August 27, 1866 in Washington, D.C.) was an American writer. Biography He was born in Providence, Rhode Island, the son of Ebenezer Smith Thomas, a journalist and a nephew of printer Isaiah Thomas. He was educated in Baltimore, Maryland, where he studied law, and was admitted to the bar in 1828. In 1830 he moved to Cincinnati and assisted his father in editing the ''Advertiser'', in which appeared his song “'Tis said that absence conquers love.” He became an associate editor of the ''Democratic Intelligencer'' in 1834, and of the ''Evening Post'' in 1835. From 1841 until 1850, he was a clerk in the United States Department of the Treasury in Washington, D.C., for which he selected a library. Frederick Bruce Thomas (russian: Фёдор Фёдорович Томас, translit=Fyodor Fyodorovich Tomas; November 4, 1872 – June 12, 1928) was an American from Coahoma County, Mississippi who became a prominent businessman in the entertainment industry of Moscow and, later, Istanbul. Thomas was born to former slaves Lewis and Hannah Thomas, who owned a farm in Coahoma County. After his father was murdered, he left Mississippi for London, intending to work as a waiter but then moved to Russia, where he prospered and owned and operated a number of successful theaters and restaurants for 19 years. During the Russian Revolution, he fled to İstanbul Turkey, where he had less success in business and went into debt. His passport request was denied by US consulate due to his slave past and he was unable to return to the United States and died in a debtor's prison. Sir Frederick William Thomas AE was Lord Mayor of Melbourne from 1957 to 1959, having been persuaded to stand for Council by his friend Field Marshal Sir Thomas Blamey. Frederick Harvey "Tommy" Thomas (December 19, 1892 – January 15, 1986) was an American professional baseball third baseman. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1918 to 1920 for the Boston Red Sox, Philadelphia Athletics, and Washington Senators. In 1916, Thomas was acquired by the Boston Red Sox with Sam Jones from the Cleveland Indians in exchange for Tris Speaker. He entered the majors in 1918, hitting .257 in 44 games, and was a member of the World Champions Red Sox in the 1918 Series. Before the 1919 season, he was dealt to the Philadelphia Athletics and posted career-highs in games (124), hits (96), runs (42) and stolen bases (12), while hitting .212.
