Fred Van Der Blij
Frederik van der Blij (13 May 1923, Leiden – 27 January 2018, Heino, Netherlands) was a Dutch mathematician. From 1955 until his retirement in 1988 he was professor at the University of Utrecht. Emil Grosswald
Emil Grosswald (December 15, 1912 – April 11, 1989) was a mathematician who worked primarily in number theory. Life and education Grosswald was born on December 15, 1912 in Bucharest, Romania. He received a master's degree in both mathematics and electrical engineering from the University of Bucharest in 1933, spent six months in Italy and then received a Diplôme from École supérieure d'électricité in Paris. Grosswald was Jewish. When war broke out, he fled from Paris in June, 1940 to the University of Montpellier, where he began doctoral studies in mathematics. He fled at the end of 1941, through Spain and Lisbon to Cuba. He moved to Puerto Rico in 1946 and then to the United States in 1948. He received his Ph.D. under Hans Rademacher from the University of Pennsylvania in 1950. A mathematician is someone who uses an extensive knowledge of mathematics in their work, typically to solve mathematical problems. Jack Van Lint
Jacobus Hendricus ("Jack") van Lint (1 September 1932 – 28 September 2004) was a Dutch mathematician, professor at the Eindhoven University of Technology, of which he was rector magnificus from 1991 till 1996. He gained his Ph.D. from Utrecht University in 1957 under the supervision of Fred van der Blij. He was professor of mathematics at Eindhoven University of Technology from 1959 to 1997. He was appointed a full professor at Eindhoven University of Technology at the age of 26 years. His field of research was initially number theory, but he worked mainly in combinatorics and coding theory. Van Lint was honored with a great number of awards. Jan Hogendijk
Jan Pieter Hogendijk (born 21 July 1955) is a Dutch mathematician and historian of science. Since 2005, he is professor of history of mathematics at the University of Utrecht. Hogendijk became a member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2010. Hogendijk has contributed to the study of Greek mathematics and mathematics in medieval Islam; he provides a list of Sources on his website (below). In 2012, he was awarded the inaugural Otto Neugebauer Prize for History of Mathematics, by the European Mathematical Society, "for having illuminated how Greek mathematics was absorbed in the medieval Arabic world, how mathematics developed in medieval Islam, and how it was eventually transmitted to Europe." Hendrik Kloosterman
Hendrik Douwe Kloosterman (9 April 1900 – 6 May 1968) was a Dutch mathematician, known for his work in number theory (in particular, for introducing Kloosterman sums) and in representation theory. After completing his master's degree at Leiden University from 1918–1922 he studied at the University of Copenhagen with Harald Bohr and the University of Oxford with G. H. Hardy. In 1924 he received his Ph.D. in Leiden under supervision of J. C. Kluyver. From 1926 to 1928 he studied at the universities of Göttingen and Hamburg, and he was assistant at the University of Münster from 1928-1930. Kloosterman was appointed ''lector'' (associate professorship) at Leiden University in 1930 and full professor in 1947.
