Fred Way
Fred Way (born 9 February 1944) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with South Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). A knock ruckman, Way played six games in his debut season in 1964 and played with Berrigan in 1965, then played 18 games with South Melbourne in 1966. Way returned to play with Berrigan in 1967 and 1968 and won the 1968 Murray Football League’s O’Dwyer Medal and played in Berrigan's 1968 premiership team. Way was lured back to South Melbourne to play under Norm Smith and had a successful season in 1969 when he finished second in his club's best and fairest. He also represented Victoria at the 1969 Adelaide Carnival and in 1970 played VFL finals football for the first time. Berrigan Football Club
The Berrigan Football Netball Club, nicknamed the Saints, is an Australian rules football and netball club playing in the Picola & District Football League. The club is based in the small town of Berrigan located in the Riverina district of New South Wales. History The Berrigan Football Club's first recorded match was against Cobram, at Cobram in 1891 and initially competed in the Murray Border Football Association in 1895 and 1896, then competed in the Southern Riverina Football Association (SRFA) from 1905 to 1930. Berrigan won ten SRFA premierships against teams such as Finley, Leniston, Tocumwal and Jerilderie. In 1931 and 1932, Berrigan, Finley and Nathalia applied to join the Murray Football League, but were knocked back on the grounds of excessive travel for the other competing club. The Sydney Swans are a professional Australian rules football club based in Sydney, New South Wales. The men's team competes in the Australian Football League (AFL), and the women's team in the AFL Women's (AFLW). The Swans also field a reserves men's team in the Victorian Football League (VFL). The club's origins trace back to 21 March 1873, when a meeting was held at the Clarendon Hotel in South Melbourne to establishing a junior football club, to be called the South Melbourne Football Club. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. The Australian Football League (AFL) is the only fully professional competition of Australian rules football. Through the AFL Commission, the AFL also serves as the sport's governing body and is responsible for controlling the laws of the game. Murray Football League
The Murray Football Netball League is an Australian rules football and netball league affiliated with the Victorian Country Football League. The league covers a large area of northern Victoria and southern New South Wales from Shepparton in the south to Deniliquin in the north. It covers much the same area as the Picola & District Football League but the teams tend to be the larger communities and towns. Norm Smith
Norman Walter Smith (21 November 1915 – 29 July 1973) was an Australian rules football player and coach in the Victorian Football League (VFL). After more than 200 games as a player with and , Smith began a twenty-year coaching career, including a fifteen-year stint at Melbourne. A Legend in the Australian Football Hall of Fame, Smith is regarded as one of the greatest and most influential coaches in the game's history, as well as being one of the finest full-forwards of his era. Like legendary Collingwood coach Jock McHale, Smith could take young players of different backgrounds and mould them into a disciplined team. 1969 Adelaide Carnival
The 1969 Adelaide Carnival was the 17th edition of the Australian National Football Carnival, an Australian rules football interstate competition. Four teams competed in the carnival, South Australia, the Victorian Football League, Tasmania and Western Australia. Victoria finished on top of the table after winning all of their games. Peter Hudson kicked 17 goals in the carnival, the next best was Austin Robertson with 15. Berrigan is a town on the Riverina Highway in the Riverina region of New South Wales, Australia.
