Fred Marshall (American Politician)
Fred Marshall, (March 13, 1906 – June 5, 1985), was a member of the United States House of Representatives from the U.S. state of Minnesota. Marshall born in Union Grove Township, near Grove City, Meeker County, Minnesota; graduated from Paynesville, Minnesota High School; engaged in farming; member of the Minnesota Agriculture Administration Committee, 1937 – 1941; State director of the Farm Security Administration (later the Farmers Home Administration) 1941 – 1948; delegate, Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party (DFL) convention, 1966. Harold Knutson
Harold Knutson (October 20, 1880 – August 21, 1953) was an American politician and journalist, who represented Minnesota in the United States House of Representatives from 1917 to 1949 as a member of the Republican Party. From 1919 to 1923 he was the Republican majority whip. Early life Knutson was born in Skien, in Telemark county, Norway. At the age of 6 he and his family moved to the United States. Meeker County
Meeker County is a county in the U.S. state of Minnesota. As of the 2020 census, the population was 23,400. Its county seat is Litchfield. History The Wisconsin Territory was established by the federal government effective July 3, 1836, and existed until its eastern portion was granted statehood (as Wisconsin) in 1848. The federal government set up the Minnesota Territory effective March 3, 1849. The newly organized territorial legislature created nine counties across the territory in October of that year. One of those original counties, Dakota, had portions partitioned off to create Cass (1851), Nicollet (1853), Pierce (1853), and Sibley (1853) counties. In 1855 portions of those counties were carved out to create Davis, and on February 23, 1856, the territorial legislature created Meeker County from a portion of Davis. It was named for Bradley B. Litchfield, Minnesota
Litchfield is a city in and the county seat of Meeker County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 6,624 at the 2020 census. History Immigration to the county was slow until the St. Paul, Minneapolis and Manitoba Railroad, later the called St. Paul and Pacific and then the Great Northern, started coming through the area in 1869. The first train to arrive was a construction train on August 13, 1869. The town site was laid out in 1869 with agriculture and agriculture related industries making up a large base of the economy. The town's first post office opened in a home in September 20, 1869. It later moved to the northwest corner of Sibley Avenue and Second Street, to a clothing store owned by the town's first official postmaster.
