Fred Gallagher (cartoonist)
Frederick M. Gallagher III (born November 15, 1968) is an American illustrator and web cartoonist. He is best known as the artist, co-creator, and now full owner of ''Megatokyo''. He also goes by the name of Piro, the main character of ''Megatokyo'', who he has stated is an idealized version of himself when he was in college. He took this name from that of the cat in the visual novel '' Kanon''. Gallagher lives with his wife and their son in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Megatokyo
(also stylized as ''MegaTokyo'') is an English-language webcomic created by Fred Gallagher and Rodney Caston. ''Megatokyo'' debuted on August 14, 2000, and has been written and illustrated solely by Gallagher since July 17, 2002. Fred Gallagher's news post announcing Caston's departure. Gallagher's style of writing and illustration is heavily influenced by Japanese manga. ''Megatokyo'' is freely available on its official website. The stated schedule for updates is Tuesday and Friday, but they typically are posted just once or twice a month on non-specific days (in the beginning a three-per-week schedule of Monday, Wednesday, and Friday was the goal). Sakura-Con is an annual three-day anime convention held during March or April at the Washington State Convention Center in Seattle, Washington. is a Japanese online community for artists. It was first launched as a beta test on September 10, 2007, by Takahiro Kamitani and Takanori Katagiri. Omake
''Omake'' (, usually written ) means ''extra'' in Japanese. Its primary meaning is general and widespread. It is used as an anime and manga term to mean "extra or bonus." In the United States, the term is most often used in a narrow sense by anime fans to describe special features on DVD releases: deleted scenes, interviews with the actors, "the making of" documentary clips, outtakes, amusing bloopers, and so forth. However, this use of the term actually predates the DVD medium by several years. For at least the past fifty years in Japan, ''omake'' of small character figurines and toys have been giveaways that come with soft drinks and candy and sometimes the ''omake'' is more desired than the product being sold.
