Fred Davies (footballer, Born 1921)
Frederick James "Mulga" Davies (14 August 1921 – 13 August 1961) was an Australian rules footballer who played in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Family The son of William Phillip Davies (1884–1983), and Marian Davies (1885–1963), née Thompson, Frederick James Davies was born at Seaford, Victoria on 14 August 1921. He married Joan Mason in 1948, and was the father of the famous Tasmanian dual Olympic basketballer Ian Davies (1956–2013). Football Davies played as both a follower and key position forward. Carlton Cleared to Carlton from Seaford Football Club in April 1941, he made his senior debut for Carlton on 2 August 1941, in the Round 14 match against Hawthorn; and, having enlisted in the Second AIF, he did not play again until he returned from overseas service in 1946. Seaford is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 36 km south-east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Frankston local government area. Seaford recorded a population of 17,215 at the . History Seaford was the site of the Karrum Karrum swamp, which was utilised for food by the Bunurong Aboriginal people. In the early twentieth century, after European settlement, the swamp was drained for farming purposes (with wet areas remaining only at low lands; including Seaford and the Edithvale wetlands). The name Seaford arose during a meeting of local residents in 1913, called to decide upon a name for the settlement and the new railway station about to open. It was agreed that the name should contain some reference to the sea. Councillor Sydney Plowman suggested "Seaford", dropping the "l" from his home town of Sleaford, in Lincolnshire, England. Tasmanian Football Hall Of Fame
The Tasmanian Football Hall of Fame was established to help recognise outstanding services and overall contribution made to the sport of Australian rules football in Tasmania. Any participant of the sport, including players, umpires, media personalities and coaches, may be inducted. A physical hall was established in 2005 after the Tasmanian Community Fund provided a $50,000 grant to assist AFL Tasmania and the Launceston City Council with establishment of a permanent facility at York Park. The decision to locate the Hall of Fame at the ground was because the site had recently been redeveloped and was positioned as the "true home of Tasmanian football". AFL Tasmania initiated the Hall of Fame nomination process, with a number of clubs, players and grounds nominated and accepted into the Hall of Fame since 2005.
