History The division was created in 2004 to replace the abolished Division of Burke, and is named in honour Sir John Gorton, who served as Prime Minister of Australia from 1968 to 1971. The City of Melton is a local government area in Victoria, Australia, on Melbourne's western rural–urban fringe. It covers , and in June 2018, Melton had population of 156,713.
