Fraser Album
The Fraser Album is a collection of paintings commissioned by British Indian civil servant, William Fraser. It is considered among the greatest masterpieces of Company painting. This work is an important documentation of the Mughal empire towards its end. The artwork covered the life in Mughal era during the time. It compendium has portraits of villagers, soldiers, holy men, dancing women, Afghan horse-dealers, ascetics, village of Rania and Indian nobles. Some of the noted Mughal painters like Ghulam Ali Khan, his brother Faiz, and family worked on the Fraser Album, after financial support from the Mughal emperor diminished. There are over 90 paintings and drawings in the album, which came to light in Fraser's papers only in 1979. Most were painted between 1815 to 1819. They are now dispersed. British India Civil Service
The Indian Civil Service (ICS), officially known as the Imperial Civil Service, was the higher civil service of the British Empire in India during British rule in the period between 1858 and 1947. Its members ruled over more than 300 million people in the Presidencies and provinces of British India and were ultimately responsible for overseeing all government activity in the 250 districts that comprised British India. They were appointed under Section XXXII(32) of the Government of India Act 1858, enacted by the British Parliament. The ICS was headed by the Secretary of State for India, a member of the British cabinet. Company Painting
Company style, also known as Company painting or Patna painting (Hindi: ''kampani kalam'') is a term for a hybrid Indo-European style of paintings made in India by Indian artists, many of whom worked for European patrons in the East India Company or other foreign Companies in the 18th and 19th centuries. The style blended traditional elements from Rajput and Mughal painting with a more Western treatment of perspective, volume and recession. Most paintings were small, reflecting the Indian miniature tradition, but the natural history paintings of plants and birds were usually life size. Locations First emerging in Murshidabad, later leading centres were the main British settlements of Calcutta, Madras (Chennai), Varanasi, Delhi, Lucknow, Patna, the Maratha court of Thanjavur and Bangalore. Rania is a city and a municipal committee Sirsa district in the Indian state of Haryana. Rania Town is the biggest grain market in Sirsa district. Ghulam Ali Khan
Ghulam Ali Khan was a nineteenth century Indian painter in Delhi. His painting career took place over the course of more than four decades, from 1817 to 1852. He was the last royal Mughal painter, and also painted in the Company style for British patrons. Early life Ghulam Ali Khan was born in the late eighteenth century. At this time, Shah Alam II presided over the Mughal Empire, but in 1803 the British occupied Delhi. Khan grew up and worked in a society that included Mughal and British cultures. The David Collection
The David Collection ( da, Davids Samling) is a museum of fine and applied art in Copenhagen, Denmark, built around the private collections of lawyer, businessman and art collector C. L. David. The museum is particularly noted for its collection of Islamic art from the 8th to the 19th century, which is one of the largest in Northern Europe. The museum also holds fine and applied art from Europe in the 18th century and the Danish Golden Age as well as a small collection of Danish early modern art. All the works of art in the collection of Danish early modern art were acquired by C. L. David himself. Delhi Book
Delhi Book or Delhie Book titled Reminiscences of Imperial Delhi is a collection of paintings done in Company style, commissioned by Sir Thomas Metcalfe in 1844. It contains 120 paintings by Indian artists, mainly by Mughal painter, Mazhar Ali Khan. The book was bought by the British Library in London. History It was commissioned by Sir Thomas Metcalfe, Governor-General's Agent at the Imperial court of the Mughal Emperor, Bahadur Shah Zafar. The paintings, done by Mughal painter, Mazhar Ali Khan, document the lifestyle of the last Mughal in 19th century Delhi.
