Franz Von Schober
Franz Adolf Friedrich Schober, since 1801 von Schober (born 17 May 1796, Torup Castle at Malmö, Sweden; died 13 September 1882 in Dresden), was an Austrian Lyric poetry, poet, librettist, lithographer, actor in Breslau and ''Legationsrat'' in Weimar. Schober was born to Austrian parents in Sweden. Educated in the Schnepfenthal Salzmann School, Akademisches Gymnasium (Vienna) and Kremsmünster Abbey, he returned to Vienna, where he began to study philosophy and met the composer Franz Schubert, his friends Johann Mayrhofer, Joseph von Spaun and the painters Leopold Kupelwieser and Moritz von Schwind. He also knew Beethoven during his later years and their relationship culminated when he visited him on Beethoven’s deathbed along with Schubert. Johann Mayrhofer
Johann Baptist Mayrhofer (22 October 17875 February 1836) was an Austrian poet and librettist. He is best known for his close friendship with the composer Franz Schubert. Biography Mayrhofer was born in Steyr, educated at Novitiate in St. Florian's Priory Upper Austria. In 1810 he began to study jurisprudence and theology at the University of Vienna, both of which courses he finished. He worked as a censor at the Zentral-Bücher-Revisions-Amt in Vienna. In 1814 he met the young composer Franz Schubert and his friends (Joseph von Spaun, Franz von Schober). From 1818-1821 he lived with Schubert in a one-room apartment in a house on Wipplingerstrasse 4. After Schubert moved out, he wrote the poem ''An Franz'' for him: Mayrhofer wrote a lot of lyric poetry and published it in 1824. Michael Lorenz (musicologist)
Michael Lorenz (born 18 July 1958) is an Austrian musicologist, music teacher, musician, chess historian and photographer, noted as a Mozart scholar and for his archival work combining music history and genealogical research. Career Born in Vienna, Lorenz studied cello and oboe at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna where he obtained his diploma in 1990, and musicology at the University of Vienna with a PhD in 2001. From 2001 to 2005 he served as chair of the International Franz Schubert Institute. Lorenz has received grants from the Jubilee Foundation of Oesterreichische Nationalbank, the Austrian Science Fund and the ''Music & Letters'' Trust. After having worked with the Esterházy Foundation, he is currently doing research based on a grant from the Jubilee Foundation of city of Vienna. Siegfried Schmalzriedt (4 April 1941 – 9 December 2008) was a German musicologist, University lecturer and vice-rector of the Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe. Life and career Born in Stuttgart, Schmalzriedt studied musicology, Roman philology and comparative literature at the Universities of Tübingen, Paris and Bologna. Constantin Wurzbach Ritter von Tannenberg (11 April 1818 – 17 August 1893) was an Austrian biographer, lexicographer and author. Biography He was born in Laibach, Carniola (present-day Ljubljana, Slovenia).He later went on to complete a course in philosophy and published poetry in local periodicals, inspired by the work of Nikolaus Lenau and Anastasius Grün. At the request of his father, he began studying jurisprudence at Graz, which he, however, abandoned after two years. Alfonso Und Estrella
' (''Alfonso and Estrella''), 732, is an opera with music by Franz Schubert, set to a German libretto by Franz von Schober, written in 1822. Along with the later '' Fierrabras'', composed in 1823, it marks Schubert's attempt to compose grand Romantic opera in German, departing from the Singspiel tradition. Unlike ''Fierrabras'', it contains no spoken dialogue. Background In close collaboration with von Schober in the region of Sankt Pölten, Schubert wrote the vocal numbers of ''Alfonso und Estrella'' between September 1821 and February 1822. Schober, only one year older than the young Schubert, and a dabbler in literature, music and theatre, was enthusiastic about the collaboration. Thekla Charlotte von Gumpert (married Thekla von Schober; 28 June 1810 in Kalisch- 1 April 1897 in Dresden) was a German children's and youth writer. Life Origin Thekla von Gumpert was born in Kalisch as the third of five children of Henriette née von Eckartsberg und Weißtrupp and the district physician Christian Gottlieb von Gumpert.
