Frankfurt–Hanau (south Bank) Railway
The South Main line connects Frankfurt am Main Hauptbahnhof with Hanau Hauptbahnhof. It consists of a two-track main line that runs via Offenbach Hauptbahnhof and a line of the Rhine-Main S-Bahn that is entirely independent of the main line tracks but is mainly built next to them. The S-Bahn line connects the Frankfurt City Tunnel to Offenbach Ost and Hanau. It is used by S-Bahn lines S8 and S9. The original line was completed in 1873 and 1875, as part of the extension of the Frankfurt-Bebra Railway from Hanau to Frankfurt. The S-Bahn line was opened in 1992 and 1995. Route The main line consists of a two-track main line that leaves Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof, running next to the Main-Neckar Railway across the Main-Neckar Bridge over the Main. Main-Neckar Railway
The Main-Neckar Railway (german: Main-Neckar–Eisenbahn, MNE) is a main line railway west of the Odenwald in the Upper Rhine Plain of Germany that connects Frankfurt am Main to Heidelberg via Darmstadt, Bensheim and Weinheim. It was opened in 1846 and is one of the oldest railways in Germany. The railway line is part of the networks served by the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund and Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Neckar. Steinheim (Main) station is a station on the Frankfurt–Hanau (south bank) railway in Hanau in the German state of Hesse. The station is classified by Deutsche Bahn (DB) as a category 5 station. Location and description The station is located on the South Main S-Bahn line (DB line no. 3680) between Frankfurt and Hanau, which runs parallel with a section of the Frankfurt–Bebra railway (DB line no. 3600). The S-Bahn line is single track here, as it is all the way from Mülheim (Main) Dietenheim station to Hanau Central Station (german: Hanau Hauptbahnhof).The single platform is on the northeast side of the track and is served by trains in both directions. Mühlheim-Dietesheim station is a railway station serving the town of Mühlheim am Main, approximately 13 km to the east of the city of Frankfurt am Main in Hesse, Germany. Its two platforms are served by S-Bahn lines S8 and S9, which run from Wiesbaden in the west to Hanau in the east via Frankfurt Airport, Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof and the city tunnel, and Offenbach Ost. Trains call approximately every half an hour during the day, with more frequent quarter-hourly services during the rush hour. The Rodgau Railway (''Rodgaubahn'') is a railway line that runs from Offenbach Central Station (''Offenbach am Main Hauptbahnhof'') via Rodgau to Rödermark-Ober-Roden in the German state of Hesse. The name ''Rodgaubahn'' is derived from the medieval name of ''Rodgau'', part of the former ''Maingau'' (Main district), which the line passes through for its whole length. History Since about 1870 there were serious proposals from local interest groups for the building of a railway to open up the Rodgau, but at first the government of the Grand Duchy of Hesse did not respond to them. Offenbach am Main Hauptbahnhof is a railway station serving the German city of Offenbach am Main. It is located on the Frankfurt–Bebra railway/ South Main line between Frankfurt and Hanau on the south bank of the Main. It is also the starting point of the Rodgau Railway, via Obertshausen, Rodgau and Ober-Roden to Dieburg (originally to Reinheim). History The station was built from 1872 to 1873 during the construction of the Frankfurt–Bebra railway and was given an entrance building in Renaissance Revival style. It was commissioned by the ''Königliche Eisenbahndirektion'' ( Royal Railway Division) of Frankfurt. Because of the development of the city around the line which was originally laid on the same level as the roads, the railway was put on an embankment between 1912 and 1926 so that the increasing road traffic could run under it. Bundesautobahn 661
- also called ''Osttangente Frankfurt'' (easttangent Frankfurt) or ''Taunusschnellweg'' - is a 40 km (25 mi) long Autobahn in Germany. It starts in Oberursel and goes along Bad Homburg, Frankfurt am Main, Offenbach am Main and Neu-Isenburg until it is ending in Egelsbach. Today's A 661 was opened with the sections Bad Homburg (today junction 3) and Frankfurt-Bonames (formerly junction 5b). While the road's extension to Oberursel-Nord was easy to build, the construction to Frankfurt-Eckenheim got significantly delayed. There was an interim end between Bonames and Eschersheim near the ''Bonameser Platz''. After many years the extension to the ''Friedberger Landstraße'' followed. The section between Offenbach and Egelsbach was also already constructed, but at this time as a part of the A 49 which was planned as an Autobahn between Kassel and Darmstadt. Offenbach City Tunnel
The Offenbach City Tunnel is a railway tunnel on the Frankfurt Schlachthof–Hanau line in Offenbach am Main in the German state of Hesse. It is used by all of the eastern branches of the Rhine-Main S-Bahn ( S1, S2, S8 and S9). It runs largely under Berliner Straße. Construction Several options were considered and the current route was selected in 1983. Finance for the project was agreed on 4 December 1986, and planning approval was achieved at the end of 1990, allowing construction to begin. However, the symbolic beginning of construction was on 23 March 1988. Parts of the new line run along or below the route of the former Lokalbahn line. Commissioning and subsequent changes The line between Frankfurt-Mühlberg and Offenbach Ost was opened on 23 May 1995.
