Frank Mechau
Frank Albert Mechau (may-show) Jr. (January 1904–1946), was an American artist and muralist. Mechau's aspiration to become an artist began early in his life and developed rapidly. His determination led to a distinguished career that included three Guggenheim fellowships, thirteen public mural commissions, and work featured in dozens of national and international exhibitions. Many of his paintings are currently in private collections and museums around the U.S, and his murals adorn the walls of public buildings in Colorado, Nebraska, Texas, and Washington, DC. Early life Mechau's grandfather August emigrated from Mechau, Germany via New Orleans, eventually settling in Missouri. He married Helena Breuer and the couple moved to Brown County, Kansas, where they had seven children, including Mechau's father Frank Albert (b. 1874). ''Dangers of the Mail'' is a 1937 mural by Frank Mechau installed in the William Jefferson Clinton Federal Building (formerly the Post Office Department Building), in Washington, D.C. Commissioned by Treasury Department Section of Fine Arts, the mural is one of 25 New Deal artworks in the building. ''Dangers of the Mail'' faced criticism and objections at the time of its creation for lewdness and in the 21st century for stereotypical portrayals of Native Americans and depictions of sexualized violence causing a hostile workplace environment. Since the early 2000s the mural has been curtained from public view and is viewable only by appointment. The Redstone Historic District is located in and near the unincorporated community of that name in western Pitkin County, Colorado, United States. It includes the original community of Redstone as built by Colorado Fuel and Iron (CFI) for the coal miners it employed. In 1989 it was recognized as a historic district and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Redstone was originally a company town. John Cleveland Osgood, CFI's president at the time, spent lavishly to create quality housing for miners and their families, as well as various other public buildings, in an effort to forestall unionization. Montrouge () is a commune in the southern Parisian suburbs, located from the centre of Paris. It is one of the most densely populated municipalities in Europe. Brownfield is a city in Terry County, Texas, United States. Its population was 9,657 at the 2010 census. Brownfield is 39 miles southwest of Lubbock, it is the county seat of Terry County.
