Frank Englefield
Frank Englefield (August 1878 – 1945) was an English professional footballer who played for Southampton in the late 1890s, generally at outside-left although his only Southern League appearance came at left-half. Football career Englefield was born in Southampton and played his youth football for the Freemantle Mission before joining the Freemantle club. In May 1898, he moved across the town to join Southampton who had just been crowned as Southern League champions for the second successive year. He initially played in the reserves, including two appearances in the United League, which led to him being selected to play for the Hampshire County F.A. against Dorset in March 1899. His only appearance in the first-team came on 25 November 1899, when he was selected to replace Bob Petrie at left-half for the match at Bedminster. Cricket
Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). Means of dismissal include being bowled, when the ball hits the stumps and dislodges the bails, and by the fielding side either catching the ball after it is hit by the bat, but before it hits the ground, or hitting a wicket with the ball before a batter can cross the crease in front of the wicket. Hampshire County Cricket Club
Hampshire County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Hampshire. Hampshire teams formed by earlier organisations, principally the Hambledon Club, always had first-class status and the same applied to the county club when it was founded in 1863. Because of poor performances for several seasons until 1885, Hampshire then lost its status for nine seasons until it was invited into the County Championship in 1895, since when the team have played in every top-level domestic cricket competition in England. Phil Mead
Charles Phillip Mead (9 March 1887 – 26 March 1958) was an English first-class cricketer. He played as a left-handed batsman for Hampshire and England between 1905 and 1936. Alf Milward
Alfred Milward (12 September 1870 – 1 June 1941) was a professional footballer who played in the 1893 and 1897 FA Cup Finals for Everton and in the 1900 FA Cup Final for Southampton. Early career Born in Great Marlow, Milward was one of the first Southerners to establish himself in the Football League. The son of a tradesman, he was educated at Sir William Borlase's Grammar School and played for the school's Old Boys team and for Marlow, before joining Everton in May 1888. A well-built, hard-working, determined and technically clever winger, he contested every ball, played at full stretch for the duration of the game and had a knack of delivering a cross-field pass to perfection from up to 40 yards, combined with his shooting power from wide positions.
