Francisco Alves (singer)
Francisco de Morais Alves (August 19, 1898 – September 27, 1952), better known as Francisco Alves, Chico Alves or Chico Viola, was a Brazilian singer, one of the most popular in the first half of the 20th century, and considered by many to be the greatest in the country. The quality of his work earned him in 1933, by broadcaster César Ladeira, the nickname "Rei da Voz" (Voice King). He recorded more than 500 78 rpm albums, among them the first electrical recording made in Brazil. He performed songs composed by musicians such as Cartola, Heitor dos Prazeres and Ismael Silva (musician), Ismael Silva; and several songs became famous in his voice, like "Ai! que saudade da Amélia", or the first recording of samba "Aquarela do Brasil" by Ary Barroso. Alves died in a car accident at the Rodovia Presidente Dutra, near Pindamonhangaba, on September 27, 1952. Angenor de Oliveira, known as Cartola (Portuguese for top hat), (; October 11, 1908 – November 30, 1980) was a Brazilian singer, composer and poet considered to be a major figure in the development of samba. Cartola composed, alone or with partners, more than 500 songs. Biography The third son of Sebastião Joaquim de Oliveira and Aida Gomes de Oliveira, Angenor was born at Rua Ferreira Viana, 74, in the Catete district of Rio de Janeiro. His parents named him ''Agenor,'' but a transcription error on his birth certificate rendered it ''Angenor'', which he learned when he was 55. Heitor Dos Prazeres
Heitor dos Prazeres (23 September 1898 — Rio de Janeiro, 4 October 1966) was a Brazilian composer, singer and painter. He was a pioneer samba composer and participated in the first samba schools in Brazil. Later in life he became known by his paintings. Early years Heitor was born in the Rio de Janeiro, to Eduardo Alexandre dos Prazeres, woodworker and clarinetist in the National Guard band, and the seamstress Celestina Gonçalves Martins, living in the Cidade Nova (Praça Onze) neighborhood. He was known as Lino and had two older sisters, Acirema and Iraci. His father taught him to play the clarinet in various rhythms like polkas, waltzes, choros and marches, dying when he was seven. Milton de Oliveira Ismael Silva (September 14, 1905 - March 14, 1978), known as Ismael Silva, was a Brazilian samba musician. In 1925 he had his first recorded his samba. His best-known compositions were ''Me faz carinhos'', ''Se você jurar'', ''Antonico'', ''Para me livrar do mal'', ''Novo amor'', ''Ao romper da aurora'', ''Tristezas não pagam dívidas'', ''Me diga o teu nome'', among others. Ary de Resende Barroso (1903–1964), better known as Ary Barroso, was a Brazilian composer, pianist, soccer commentator, and talent-show host on radio and TV. He was one of Brazil's most successful songwriters in the first half of the 20th century. Barroso also composed many songs for Carmen Miranda during her career. Biography Born on November 7, 1903, Ary Barroso was the most influential pre-bossa nova composer in Brazil. The Rodovia Presidente Dutra, (BR-116 – or SP-060 in the state of São Paulo), colloquially known as Via Dutra is a federal highway which runs through the eastern part of the state of São Paulo and southwestern region of the state of Rio de Janeiro. The International Music Score Library Project (IMSLP), also known as the Petrucci Music Library after publisher Ottaviano Petrucci, is a subscription-based digital library of public-domain music scores. The project, which uses MediaWiki software, has uploaded more than 630,000 scores and 73,000 recordings of more than 195,000 works by 24,000 composers.
