Francis Walker (Virginia Politician)
Francis Walker (June 22, 1764 – March 1806) was an American planter and politician from Albemarle County, Virginia. He was member of the Virginia House of Delegates in 1788-91 and again in 1797-1801. He represented Virginia in the U.S. Congress from 1793 to 1795. Biography Francis was the second son, and one of twelve children of Dr. Thomas (1715–1794) and Mildred Walker. His mother was the widow of Nicholas Meriwhether and through her he inherited the estate at ''Castle Hill'' in Albemarle County. His older brother John represented Virginia in the Continental Congress and the U.S. Senate. Francis married Jane Byrd Nelson, daughter of General Hugh Nelson, and granddaughter William Nelson who had been President of the Council and acting governor of Colonial Virginia. Francis Walker (entomologist)
Francis Walker (31 July 1809 – 5 October 1874) was an English entomologist. He was born in Southgate, London, on 31 July 1809 and died at Wanstead, England on 5 October 1874. He was one of the most prolific authors in entomology, and stirred controversy during his later life as his publications resulted in a huge number of junior synonyms. However, his assiduous work on the collections of the British Museum had great significance. Between June 1848 and late 1873 Walker was contracted by John Edward Gray Director of the British Museum to catalogue their insects (except Coleoptera) that is Orthoptera, Neuroptera, Hemiptera, Diptera, Lepidoptera and Hymenoptera. Francis Amasa Walker
Francis Amasa Walker (July 2, 1840 – January 5, 1897) was an American economist, statistician, journalist, educator, academic administrator, and an officer in the Union Army. Walker was born into a prominent Boston family, the son of the economist and politician Amasa Walker, and he graduated from Amherst College at the age of 20. He received a commission to join the 15th Massachusetts Infantry and quickly rose through the ranks as an assistant adjutant general. Walker fought in the Peninsula Campaign and was wounded at the Battle of Chancellorsville but subsequently participated in the Bristoe, Overland, and Richmond-Petersburg Campaigns before being captured by Confederate forces and held at the infamous Libby Prison. Francis Marion Walker (November 12, 1827 – July 22, 1864) was a Confederate States Army officer during the American Civil War (Civil War). He was killed while commanding a brigade at the Battle of Atlanta of July 22, 1864, one day before his commission as a brigadier general in the Confederate Army was delivered. Lieutenant-Colonel Francis Spring Walker (6 January 1876 – 24 June 1941) was a British Army officer. He was born into an Anglo-Irish Landed gentry, gentry family in County Kerry, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland in 1876. He received his diploma for Licentiate Midwifing from the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland in 1898. He was also educated at Trinity College, Dublin. He was commissioned into the Royal Army Medical Corps on 25 April 1900 and served in the Second Boer War in the Orange River Colony and Cape Colony from June to December 1900 before being invalided. Frances Walker-Slocum (March 6, 1924 - June 9, 2018) was an American educator, pianist, and organist, and the first tenured African-American female professor at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, the first conservatory in the United States to admit black students. Walker-Slocum was the younger sister of composer George Walker, the first African-American to win the Pulitzer Prize for Music. In 1950, Walker-Slocum was married to Henry Chester Slocum Jr., a fellow Oberlin alumnus in New York City. She had one son, George Jeffrey Slocum. Frances Walker CBE RSA RSW (born 19 August 1930) is a Scottish painter, printmaker and retired lecturer. Born in Kirkcaldy, she has lived in Aberdeen for more than 60 years. After teaching art in the Hebrides, Walker accepted a lecturer position in Drawing and Painting at Gray's School of Art, Aberdeen,  where she also contributed to the foundation of Peacock Visual Arts print studio. Walker's work takes inspiration from nature of the Western Isles and Antarctica, where she visited upon receiving the James McBey Travel Award from Aberdeen Art Gallery in 2007.
