Francis Leigh (MP For Oxford)
Sir Francis Leigh (1579 – 1625) was an English barrister and politician who sat in the House of Commons between 1597 and 1622. Leigh was the eldest surviving son of Sir William Leigh of Newnham Regis and his wife Frances Harington, daughter of Sir James Harington of Exton.''HMC 6th Report: Leconfield'' (London, 1877), p. 312. He entered Middle Temple in 1597 and in the same year was elected Member of Parliament for Weymouth and Melcombe Regis. By 1600 he was a member of the Antiquarian Society. In 1601 he was elected MP for Oxford. He was knighted with the Order of the Bath in 1603 and was a gentleman of the privy chamber to James I. He was re-elected MP for Oxford in 1604. In 1614 he became master of requests and in the same year, he was elected MP for Leicester. He was High Sheriff of Warwickshire from 1618 to 1619 and by 1621 was a J.P. for Warwickshire. Sir Francis Leigh (1592 – 13 December 1644) was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons in 1625. Leigh was the son of Sir Oliph Leigh of Addington, Surrey. He matriculated at Trinity College, Oxford on 8 May 1607, aged 15. In 1610, he studied law at the Inner Temple. He was knighted in January 1613. He was a justice of the peace for Surrey (1616-at least 1642), Kent (1627-at least 1642) and Middlesex (1630–39) and was appointed High Sheriff of Surrey and Sussex for 1621–22. He was a deputy lieutenant for Surrey by 1627 until at least 1631. Francis Leigh, 3rd Baron Leigh
Colonel Francis Dudley Leigh, 3rd Baron Leigh (30 July 1855 – 16 May 1938) was a British peer and Warwickshire landowner. He was Lord of the Manor of Hunningham. An officer in the Warwickshire Yeomanry and honorary colonel of several volunteer and Territorial formations associated with the county, he served as an ambulance driver in the First World War. In 1921, he became Lord Lieutenant of Warwickshire, and held the post until his death in 1938. He had no children by either of his two marriages, so his peerage passed to a nephew. He was the second son of William Henry Leigh, 2nd Baron Leigh and his wife Caroline. He was educated at Harrow School and then at Trinity College, Cambridge, which awarded him a BA in 1879 and a MA in 1882. Francis became his father's heir apparent when his elder brother Gilbert died in a hunting accident in Montana in 1884.
