Francesco Lardone
Francesco Lardone (12 January 1887 – 30 January 1980) was an Italian-born prelate of the Catholic Church who became a U.S. citizen in 1937. He taught for 25 years at Catholic University in Washington, D.C., and then served in the diplomatic service of the Holy See as an Apostolic Nuncio and archbishop. He played a key role in arranging for bishops from the Communist-led countries of Eastern Europe to attend the Second Vatican Council. Biography Francesco Lardone was born on 12 January 1887 in Moretta, Italy. He was ordained a priest on 29 June 2010. He earned his doctorate in theology at the Pontifical School of Theology, Turin, in 1909, and his doctorate in civil and canon law at the Pontifical School of Canon Law, Turin, in 1912. He also studied paleography and diplomacy at the Royal University of Turin. He worked in parish ministry and then served as a Red Cross chaplain from 1915 to 1920. Pope John XXIII
Pope John XXIII ( la, Ioannes XXIII; it, Giovanni XXIII; born Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli, ; 25 November 18813 June 1963) was head of the Catholic Church and sovereign of the Vatican City State from 28 October 1958 until his death in June 1963. Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli was one of thirteen children born to Marianna Mazzola and Giovanni Battista Roncalli in a family of sharecroppers who lived in Sotto il Monte, a village in the province of Bergamo, Lombardy. He was ordained to the priesthood on 10 August 1904 and served in a number of posts, as nuncio in France and a delegate to Bulgaria, Greece and Turkey. In a consistory on 12 January 1953 Pope Pius XII made Roncalli a cardinal as the Cardinal-Priest of Santa Prisca in addition to naming him as the Patriarch of Venice. Saverio Zupi
Saverio Zupi (9 January 1914 – 1 March 1983) was an Italian prelate of the Catholic Church who worked in the diplomatic service of the Holy See from 1943 to 1966. Biography Saverio Zupi was born on 9 January 1914 in Cerisano, Italy. He was ordained a priest on 19 December 1936. He studied at the Almo Collegio Capranica in Rome. To prepare for a diplomatic career he entered the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy in 1938. He joined the diplomatic service in 1943, working first in the offices of the Secretariat of State. His overseas postings then took him to Costa Rica, Lebanon, and Belgium before his returned to the Secretariat for a time. On 26 October 1960, Pope John XXIII named him Apostolic Delegate to Korea. Loris Francesco Capovilla (14 October 1915 – 26 May 2016) was an Italian Roman Catholic prelate and a cardinal. At his death, he was the oldest living Roman Catholic bishop from Italy and the fourth oldest in the world. At the time of his elevation to the rank of cardinal in 2014, he was the oldest member of the College of Cardinals. He served as the personal secretary to Pope John XXIII from 1958 to 1963. The Apostolic Nunciature to Turkey is an ecclesiastical office of the Catholic Church in Turkey. It is a diplomatic post of the Holy See, whose representative is called the Apostolic Nuncio with the rank of an ambassador. Papal representation in the area that later became Turkey was initiated with the creation of the Apostolic Delegation to Constantinople in 1868, at a time when the Holy See had largely ceded the management of Church affairs in the region to the French Catholic Church. Apostolic Nunciature To Peru
The Apostolic Nunciature to the Republic of Peru is an ecclesiastical office of the Roman Catholic Church in Peru. It is a diplomatic post of the Holy See, whose representative is called the Apostolic Nuncio with the rank of an ambassador. Papal representation was established in Peru by the Apostolic Delegation to Peru and Bolivia, a single office resident in Peru. As a delegation, it had no diplomatic status but acted on behalf of the Holy See with respect to the Catholic Church in the region. This was then divided to create a nunciature for each country, a diplomatic office. Archbishop Angelo Giacinto Scapardini was named Apostolic Delegate to Peru and Bolivia in 1910.
