Frances Farley
Frances Farley (August 27, 1923 ~ January 16, 2004) was a Democratic member of the Utah State Senate, representing the state's Senate District 1. Early life and education Farley was born August 27, 1923, in Grand Forks, North Dakota. She received a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of North Dakota, and then went to New York University, and earned a master's degree in marketing. Political career After moving to Utah, Farley was elected a delegate to the 1972 Democratic National Convention. In 1976, Farley was elected to the Utah State Senate as a Democrat. At that time, Democrats were the majority party in the Utah Senate. She served in the Utah Senate until 1982. While in the state legislature, Farley was active in opposing deployment of the MX missile in Utah and Nevada. She also advocated for women in Utah. 1st Utah Senate District
The 1st Utah Senate District is located in Salt Lake County, which includes Salt Lake City, and includes Utah House Districts 20, 22, 23, 26, 29, 31 and 33. The current State Senator representing the 1st district is Luz Robles Escamilla. Former Senator Fred Fife was elected to the Utah Senate in 2004. Fife was defeated by Robles at the Salt Lake County Democratic Convention on April 26, 2008. David Daniel Marriott
David Daniel Marriott (born November 2, 1939) is an American politician who served as a member of the United States House of Representatives for Utah's 2nd congressional district from 1977 to 1985. Early life and education Born in Bingham, Utah, Marriott was educated in the public schools of Sandy, Utah, and graduated from Jordan High School in 1958. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Utah in 1967 and was designated as a Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) by the American College of Life Underwriters in 1968. Career He later worked as a life insurance agent and was the owner/president of a Utah-based firm specializing in business and pension consultation from 1968 to 1976. Common Cause
Common Cause is a watchdog group based in Washington, D.C., with chapters in 35 states. It was founded in 1970 by John W. Gardner, a Republican, who was the former Secretary of Health, Education, and Welfare in the administration of President Lyndon Johnson as well as chair of the National Urban Coalition, an advocacy group for minorities and the working poor in urban areas. David Smith Monson
David Smith Monson (born June 20, 1945) is an American politician and former U.S. Representative and the second Lieutenant Governor of Utah. He is a member of the Republican Party. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, Monson attended public schools. He earned a B.S. from the University of Utah in 1970. He became a certified public accountant afterwards. He also served as a Sergeant in the Utah Air National Guard from 1967 to 1973. Monson was elected Utah State Auditor in 1972. He was one of only two Republicans to win a statewide office that year, the rest being taken by the Democrats. He served from 1973 to 1977. He then served as lieutenant governor of Utah for two terms, from 1977 to 1985. In 1984, Monson ran for the United States House of Representatives for the Ninety-ninth Congress.
