1st Utah Senate District
The 1st Utah Senate District is located in Salt Lake County, which includes Salt Lake City, and includes Utah House Districts 20, 22, 23, 26, 29, 31 and 33. The current State Senator representing the 1st district is Luz Robles Escamilla. Former Senator Fred Fife was elected to the Utah Senate in 2004. Fife was defeated by Robles at the Salt Lake County Democratic Convention on April 26, 2008. Robles won against Salt Lake City Councilman Carlton Christensen, the Republican nominee, in the General Election on Tuesday, November 4, 2008. History Senate district one was created in 1896 when Utah was admitted as a state. Luz Robles
Luz Robles Escamilla is the Senator for the Utah State Senate's 1st Districtmap, defeating Republican Carlton Christensen for the seat November 4, 2008 after having beaten incumbent Sen. Fred Fife for the party nomination earlier that year. Early life, education, and career The daughter of two Mexican college professors, Escamilla was born in 1978 and raised in Mexico. After moving to the United States in 1996, Escamilla graduated from Marian Catholic High School in San Diego, CA. She then earned her Bachelor of Science at the University of Utah in business marketing in 2000. She also holds a Masters in Public Administration, which she earned from the University of Utah in 2005. Luz is married to former Arizona lawmaker Juan Carlos Escamilla. Personal Choice Party
The Personal Choice Party (PCP) was a United States political party whose presidential candidate for 2004 qualified for the ballot in the state of Utah. The first State Convention of the Personal Choice Party of Utah was held May 22, 2004, at Fairmont Park in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Personal Choice Party dates back to approximately 1997, and was organized by Dr. Ken Larsen, an ex-Mormon from Utah with a Ph.D. in Zoology from Brigham Young University. Prior to forming the Personal Choice Party, Larsen was known as a political activist and frequent candidate for numerous political offices in Utah under the ballot lines of several minor parties including the Libertarian Party and the Independent American Party. Reva Zilpha Beck Bosone (April 2, 1895 – July 21, 1983) was an American attorney and politician. She was a U.S. Representative from Utah. She was the first woman elected to Congress from Utah. Early life and education Born in American Fork in the Utah Territory, the daughter of a Danish immigrant father, Bosone attended public schools and graduated from high school in 1915. She graduated from Westminster Junior College in 1917 and from the University of California at Berkeley in 1919. She taught high school 1920–1927. She graduated from the University of Utah College of Law at Salt Lake City in 1930 and was admitted to the bar the same year. Bosone was the 14th woman admitted to the Utah State Bar.
